Hi Becca and Byron- I left yesterday afternoon. Enjoy your time there and we'll reconnect back in Maryland. Glad you made it in! -Seth

I just got home from being at Oshkosh Sunday through Thursday - I would have asked these things for you. My apologies. -Seth

Couldn’t agree more. I love my AeroLED Landing and Taxi lights. My taxi light can pulse if wanted and my landing light is on/off only. I have the PAR 36 lights. -Seth

I’m looking forward to seeing you and everyone at the summit. Should be another good one

Thanks Erik!! It took long enough. You used the skills perfectly with your engine out, I figured it was time to get this one finished. -Seth

You know, contact sportys or stratus, or wherever you can buy a new 3S. Tell them your stolen item and see if they want good publicity and will give you a refurbished 2S at a good discount (one of the trades in models) or $200 off the 3S. A phone call or email may go a long way toward locking a customer in for life and the story getting out there. Turn lemons into lemonade and limes into tequila! -Seth

Just checked my logbook and noticed on the same date - July 18 in 2009 is when I earned my instrument rating. -Seth

I earned my commercial pilot license today. As some of you have read I started checking off specific items training wise for my commercial pilot license in 2010 in my former F model. I had become proficient in all the maneuvers when I sold the F and upgraded to the Missile in late 2011. With a newly overhauled engine, I didn’t want to practice certain commercial maneuvers. 100 hours later in 2012, 2 cylinders cracked while under warrenty and I had a top overhaul performed as I did not trust the remaining cylinders. 100 hours later in 2013 I got engaged, married in spring 2014, my daughter was born in 2015 and my son in 2017. Life just got in the way. So in 2018, 2.5 weeks ago, I passed my written and today I passed my oral and practical. Next will be multi, CFI, or tailsdragger rating. -Seth

That’s the issue. My iPad 2 is getting slow. I was able to get some of my lost speed back by freeing up memory, bare bones approach, and taking advice here by resetting factory settings and then restoring my fee programs left. But it’s a matter of time until upgrading.

Her room, my room, my office, holiday cards . . . I’ve already thanked the other dad that captured this pic. I got a few. But this one was so good. -Seth

iPad Mini4 vs bigger or wait for a the mini 5
Seth replied to Seth's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I could go back to the 9.7 form factor - I had an original iPad2 for three years (dropped it and cracked the internal graphics something - felt like an idiot) prior to getting a Mini2. My younger brother gave me his original Mini a few years ago and I use that as a backup - very slow. Maybe I’ll get the Mini4 to stave off two years at the deal at Best Buy right now. I’ll try going to back to factory settings on my mini first and taking as much as possible off it to keep as many resources to forefligjt as possible. Many iphone7 is also a backup. -Seth -
iPad Mini4 vs bigger or wait for a the mini 5

Get a power bank that you can charge up and is separate from your aircraft systems. Use that to change the iPad in flight. When my clock died I purchased the clock that has USB charges built into it and ended up with a new clock and USB charging ports on the left side of the cockpit. I now wire up my iPad whenever it gets near 50%. Not always needed. -Seth -
WATCH OUT line boys caused leak in my fuel tank.
Seth replied to Danb's topic in General Mooney Talk
Dan- Sorry to hear about the mess. Glad the situation is coming to a resolution. Questions: 1. Was it a hot day? 2. Was the airplane in direct sunlight on the ramp? 3. Were tanks fully topped off? The reasoning for my questioning is that I have a small fuel leak/seep somewhere near a top seam when my extended range and thus main tanks are fully topped. Usually I top for a long trip and depart. It’s a non issue once a few gallons are burned off. However, when topped fully, hot, and in direct sunlight, the fuel expands, and the wings become pressure vessels down the fuel to find A way out. For those that saw my airplane dripping fuel out the belly at Mooney Summit last year, this is a perfect example. Topped, sat on a sunlit ramp, and the fuel warmed up, expanded, and leaked out. At some point I will repair this, but often I done need 98 gallons in the tanks, and on long flights I’ll use the offending side for startup and climb (first 10 gallons). If this is the case for you, I’m curious if the line guy took extra time to really top your tanks, it sat in the sun, and the hot temps plus the cool fuel from the truck expanded and created more pressure than normal on a failing seal or component. Just a potential theory. Hope to catch up with you at Summit or Oshkosh if you are attending either! -Seth -
Just wanted to share this picture. My 3 year old daughter this week on the way home from camp asked if we could go to the airport to eat and watch the airplanes fly. I said yes and she asked if her friends could come. So I called some of the friends (and parents) and we had three families at our airport this morning. My daughter then announced it was time to go see her Mooney, and led the two other kids (my daughter is in the middle) to our hanger. One of the parents snapped this picture as we walked. -Seth

Congrats Joe! Glad you have the RV-8 to scratch the flying bug. Thank you for all the great information on both airframes. -Seth

My iPad Mini 2 is getting slow. I'd rather not purchase an iPad Mini 4 that was released in 2015, but it looks like that may be the current option with form factor. The new 9.7 inch iPad is close in price, with a much faster processor, but it's bigger. Do you think and iPad Mini 5 or Mini Pro will be released? If so, when? Rumors are 51/49 that the mini is being phased out. Thus the last mini may be the 4. I hope that is not the reality. I plan to remove as much as possible from my iPad Mini 2 in order to get it bare bones to hopefully allow it to function faster until I make my next purchase. I may end up getting an iPad Mini 4 during the next "sale," I just know it's a slower processor than all other iPads now and they tend to get slower as operating systems are updated. Thanks in advance for thoughts or information you have. -Seth

Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks!

An instructor did that on my first twin training ride in a Seminole. I guess it happened to him too! I LOVED your verbal response. -Seth -
Very cool Don! -Seth

I'm Jewish But my wife is not and I now celebrate Christmas AND Easter in addition to the plethora of Jewish holidays. I do admit I trip up about the stockings and Santa. I nearly messed up one night two years ago at Christmas time. I'm learning . . . and I do very much enjoy the holiday spirit. -Seth

I hope it's fun. Top Gun; Maverick is to be released in 2019. TOP GUN though unrealistic is still a fun movie. I hope the sheer awesomeness of aviation and flight is captured in this one too. I'll organize some sort of viewing party. Filming started today and Tom Cruise sent this out:

Go Capitals! The county is behind the Knights, however I’m a Caps fan! I am curious as to the advice given on Vegas. On my next cross the country flight I will stop in Sin City, but that’s probably a few years off. -Seth

Thanks everyone!

If you look not at first plane but first few aircraft flown in your logbook, those that were trainers, it’s amazing to see how many don’t exist anymore or the crash report on them. Its sad to an extent to realize tbe percentage of aircraft you have flown that no longer fly. -Seth
