  1. Quote: jetdriven Lots of times an overhaul is an inspection and a new tag for 1200$. What ever happened to IRAN?
  2. Is that Gayle's work in your photo gallery? Looks very good. I guess the tradeoff is the extra padding that Aero Comfort installs.
  3. Sometimes a tip is called for.... or....
  4. Quote: xftrplt ...when we comment on current military capabilities, it carries all the currency and credibility of a Doolittle Raider (1942) evaluating the B-1 (1974).
  5. Interesting F-22 with some F-35 info video. The best air offense keeps the air defense from ever taking off. That way the bad guys can't hit our troops from the air. The air war and mission profile Navy guys prepare for is much different than the air war the Air Force is charged with, even as we try to help each other out. http://player.vimeo.com/video/3437045?autoplay=1 The technology developed in the F-22, the B-2, the F-35 and our newest drones will change everything, the F-16 and F-18 are becoming obsolete, and most air war fighter piloting will be done from the ground, behind a screen. Less expensive to build "planes" that don't need life support equipment, and we'll lose fewer pilots....maybe none. Glad I won't be there to experience it.

  7. Quote: Parker_Woodruff I'll be in Longview picking up my plane. Sorry can't make it
  8. Our last event was at Flagler, and it was basically an IFR day, although one member came VFR. All in all, we had 5 Mooneys bring 12 people. Our next event is this Saturday, January 14, at Sebring (KSEF). Future events are all on the second Saturday of the month: January 14, Sebring (SEF) February 11, Venice (VNC) All events start at 11:30. David requests youemail him daveanruth@aol.com by Thursday night of the week of the event to let him know if you plan on making it. He can then call the restaurant on Friday with an estimated head count. No one is obligated if they can't make it for mechanical, weather, health, or any other reason. Come to Sebring to meet other Mooney folks and have both good conversation and good food.
  9. Pattern flying advise seen in n FBO restroom:
  10. Quote: Shadrach Hey buddy, you're not flying a 20yr old bird (not for 2 more years)... this poll is becoming more and more tainted...
  11. Several stall strips broken off elevators...I finally took them totally off both elevators. That's it. :-)
  12. Quote: maropers I bought one when they first came out - one of the zippers went haywire after two years, when I was at Oshkosh I stopped by their booth to see if they could do anything with it - the rep worked on it for a couple minutes and decided he couldn't repair it and handed me a brand new bag. I can't recommend the bag or these people enough - they are fantastic.
  13. May be more than hypothetical. A good friend recently did the same MMO trick in his Comanche 260 with similar results.
  14. Needle nose pliers for do the trick fairly well, even when you have a good safety wire plier.
  15. That 5 or 6 knot variance was on 1990's vintage J's, as I recall. What one chooses to accept as fact has much to do with what one want's to believe....in many most cases ;-)
  16. Quote: JimR Get one of these, Dave. Small and easy to use in a tight Mooney cowl. Difficult to over-tighten.
  17. Quote: Hank Nope, my C is 30 psi all the way around. See the page from the book below. I didn't know that....thanks, Hank!
  18. Quote: KSMooniac ....I believe there is also considerable variation from one plane to another in terms of speed due to construction "quality" for lack of a better explanation....
  19. Quote: Hank But my CBC hangar compressor won't hold that much air . . . It will inflate all three Mooney tires from ~15 to 30 psi, but won't do the same for a single automobile tire.
  20. "There but for the grace of God......" No injuries, so all will be corrected. Thanks for sharing!
  21. ...and no worries about Maxwell doing yet another PPI on an All American plane. He, actually they, are as honest professionals as you will ever find in General Aviation. Good luck!
  22. MAPA data from several years ago....search is your friend. Lycoming was at 2009 MAPA and gave us an update on the IO-390 A3A6 STC for the J model. It should be ready next month and the E and F, I believe, will following shortly thereafter. The conversion however, will require a Hartzell 2-blade or 3-blade propeller, work on the governor, new hoses, new motor mounts, and probably engine gauge re-calibration and oil cooler modification. Cost of the engine alone will be around $36K, and given a new prop, the other work, and installation, it sounds like a $50K+ job. Ouch!! For that you"ll get roller tappets, angled valves, Slick mags, tuned induction, 10 more HP, another 4 knots, about a .5 GPH increase, and a 2 year warranty on labor, parts, and accessories. Your exchange core must be in operable condition. Proof again that's there's no free lunch, or cheap knot increases ;-) Email your questions and comments to wgierke@lycoming.textron.com
  23. Quote: M016576 My core is (thankfully) a first run directly from Lycoming... '99 vintage.
  24. Airglades, in Clewiston FL, $4.54/gal last evening.
  25. Quote: maropers ....to my defense it was pretty windy yesterday.
