I think I'm going to go to an AP school so I can do my own work. Watching these guys work gives me anxiety. How many smoke breaks does one really need!!! Grrrrr

We are about to put on two new cylinders and pistons from Aircraft Specialties, and re-use two original cylinders and pistons. The A/P says that there is no need to hone the existing cylinders, just put them both back on and without new rings either. When I was racing my four cylinder motorcycles, I would never had considered reusing rings and not honing the cylinders. Please advise. PS. Yes he has the big Lycoming rebuild book, for my reading please, but it makes my eyes cross with boredom.

We have the Darters engine in pieces. We have everything ready to reassemble. The engine has 400 hrs on it. 150hp Lycoming. Don't know which model(sorry) This all started with a per-snickity A/P who stated the crank had corrosion, at the 100hr inspection. We were skeptical, and were proven correct getting the green light by Engine Specialties. The cam did not pass inspection though. Neither did the con rods. So here is the question. Would you take the time and monetary investment and send in the cases? Do what it takes to zero time the engine? What do you need to actually zero it out? Also, we have two new cylinders which we have decided to install. Thanks David

Sort of like the 280hp Mooneys. Those engines go up to what, 350hp in other airplanes? IMy point is, if TBM wanted to develope a plane with 1200shp, they would have and it would look different than the TBM we all know now. Same for the Pilatus. If it only had 850shp to utilize, it would be a Pilatus we don't have now.

I find it funny when people compare a TBM and Pilatus. I always ask them how do you compare a plane designed for 1200shp against one with 850shp? They usually have no sane rebuttal. No more thread hijack. Tell the wife Comanche, not Arrow!!

Hey folks, the airport is already taking reservations and will fill up for the 2024 Solar Eclipse. Kerrville and the Texas Hill Country is ground zero for this event and the city will have visitors from all over the world. I have been shopping vintage Mooneys now for about six months. The prices are not consistent across the board in my opinion. I've seen a C model with all the bells, whistles, and a loaf of bread push $150,000. I've seen a J with all the same whistles, minus the fancy A/P and loaf of bread for the same $150K. I could have had an F with the full load of speed mods, twin G5's Stec-50, JP700, and more, for only $70,000. I should have bought that one. I agree with @Skates97. Spend the extra on the insurance

In context, I will say 'some Mooneys' When I described what I felt, they both shrugged it off and said "that's normal" and "nothing to worry about" I did not think to ask vintage specific, or model specific. I guess I should have.

I was in Dugosh yesterday. I asked both David and his main AP about the movement with the seat. They both said yes, completely normal. You can see the flex happening they said. They did say to check for cracks at annual in that support beam.

There was movement in both directions, in both actions either up or down. I felt the most movement, both ways, when the gear reached its full extension or retraction.
