  1. I love the pics of you all with family. My wife and I have no kids, but two, small, four-legged ones. Our neices and nephews love to fly with us, but get tired after 30min or so.
  2. CFI, CFI-IA, SE/ME. Actively teaching in the Chattanooga, TN area (in addition to my real job...).
  3. Great article, Jolie. Thanks to Mitch for posting. I like this line, "Meaning is incorporated in life, in absence of what they lost."
  4. Like triple8s, I haven't had any unusual problems with the Gills I've had in my aircraft.
  5. Quote: Zane I flew into Gaston's last fall in the C model...
  6. I use Nationwide for all my insurance, and my agent (who is also a CFI) got me a good deal with Old Republic.
  7. Sole owner of my C model.
  8. Very nice - thanks for sharing. I love that area of the country.
  9. Many years ago, my wife was apprehensive about flying. We took it slow with short sightseeing trips, and built up to overnight trips. Now, it's the preferred way to travel!
  10. I travel 15min to my MSC. Between the previous owner and myself, he's been the only shop to work on the plane in 11yrs. However, if I couldn't fly, I would use the local guys.
  11. No problem, Jim. We just confirmed the solution!
  12. I have the same thing happening on my 1966 C, and it is the nose gear steering bushing. At annual I'm getting the LASAR oversize replacement.
  13. Quote: fantom Water, applied by lovings hands :-)
  14. For prompt refueling, I don't mind tipping $5. If the car is brought to the plane, helping with unloading luggage, etc, I'll give upwards of $10. One time a line guy stayed after hours to refuel us, clean the windshield, unload luggage, call a taxi, and wait until the taxi came before leaving. He got $30. Another time, the line guy refueled us then drove us to a hotel, and picked us up the next morning. He got $30. I don't want to penalize the line guy/gal for the FBO policies (high tie-down fees, fuel, etc). If the line personnel are responsive, courteous and helpful, I will reward for that.
  15. For my C model, I reduce to 25"/2500 RPM for an enroute climb.
  16. My C had a gear up in the 90's by a previous owner, and repaired by Don Maxwell. Knowing Maxwell did the repairs was a big consideration in the purchase.
  17. Dan and Ross make a good point - my aircraft is different than yours, and I consulted my A&P on his recommendations for engine performance based on its equipment and his experience with the plane. My numbers work for me, but yours may vary slightly.
  18. Thanks for your story, and sorry to hear about your bird, Aaron. Glad you are unharmed. Now, get her fixed by a good shop and back in the air!
  19. I need to do that next year, too. I love the look of the sewn-on vs.Warren Gregoire (what I have now).
  20. Quote: Mooneyjet ...so do you run your egt at about 1400.
  21. Mooneyjet, not sure what model you have, but in my C I use WOT/2400 RPM at 6/7,000 feet (usually 22"). I use my EDM700 to get the hottest cylinder EGT around 1400. This gives me 10 GPH.
  22. I did 15,000 in my C model once, and it climbed at 200 fpm for the last 1,000'. However, the tailwind was phenomenal...
  23. I got a GNS 5870 to go with the iPad, and ForeFlight. Haven't had a chance to use it in flight, though.
  24. A multi-faceted gadget like a leatherman, tie-downs, a couple of quarts of oil, funnel, umbrellas and spare headset.
  25. I'm over 201 (about 250), but most of it was giving flight instruction. Mooney flying droped to 65 due to the economy.
