  1. iPads and phones already only charge to 80% battery capacity. Otherwise, their life in consumer use would be too short. You only charge a lithium battery to 100% if you absolutely need the capacity (like RC planes and helicopters).
  2. Yes, I can see that there are jobs that may only have an estimate. But resealing tanks has been done a few times. And yes, if I get a contractor to work on my 60 year old house, they give me a written estimate and for anything over, I have to approve it. Yes, sometimes they estimate high to avoid having to stop and call. For this case, I would think an estimate of the "normal" work, with contingencies for common issues. Such as, work will cost X, but it is not unusual for us to find A and B, and if so, that will add Y and Z cost, and acceptance of this estimate includes approval for those issues if found. This is just good business.
  3. Gauge or sensor (if not a direct plumped setup).
  4. It seems that might be so in aviation All the car shops I have used called for approval before going over the estimate. And they also gave a written estimate..
  5. FYI - Charging Current: 8 AMP (for 14 volt systems, 4 amps for 28 volt) The part the goes from the charger to the big connectors is not permanently installed in the aircraft. The harness from the battery to that connector is. Whatever makes you and your IA happy.
  6. Ask them for the Part 61 reference to that.
  7. All coils in the distributor based cars were filled with oil. Most people never knew that as they never had a hole in one.
  8. I have been thinking the same thing. There are a couple of places nearby that do the Add On rating, but they only advertise on the Light Sport Category. I would want it on my Commercial,
  9. Since when??? Part 61 lists the requirements for a Rotorcraft Category/Gyroplane Class rating. So it is like SEL or MEL Class rating on an Airplane Category.
  10. I always contact my insurance company first. Now. I had an auto accident, not my fault, that the repair shop missed some damage, that caused more damage. The insurance refused to send someone to look, stating they did not miss anything. I called my insurance company (USAA) and was told that sense I dealt with the other insurance company, they really could not get involved, but would try to help. Later that same day, the other company called to schedule an adjuster to come look. When he was shown the damaged part, he stated he probably would have missed the damage, even if the part was off the car. They paid. FYI, the problem was, the coil was pushed into light contact with a pulley. Which made a small hole, that allowed the oil to leak out and the coil to short. In the process of shorting, it took out the electronic ignition module, which in failing caused a very over rich condition to cook the cat, shatttering the core, which packed the muffler with ceramic bits. So coil, electronic ignition module, cat, exhaust system and rental car for 10 days, as it failed on a a vacation trip.
  11. I am fine with setting a limit, not to exceed. But, without that, there should be notification and acceptance of any amount over the estimate. If you don’t want to waste time on the phone, you can always email
  12. How would they know? And how would they know who to ask to learn? All that assuming the want to do a good job.
  13. Human factors tells us a light that is on most of the time, gets ignored. Same with sounds.
  14. That is why, in the USAF, there is a pilot at the end of the runway, watching. With a flare gun. Hard to miss about of red flares over the end of the runway.
  15. There is also the list on Mooney Flyer. Although I am in MD and emailed the MD listed instructor and never got a response.
  16. One would think that a top shop would suggest pickling the engine once they get a multi month estimate for parts
  17. Agreed. A quick phone call explaining what extra needed to be done would be simple and everyone would be happy
  18. Agreed, if I did the time and prep for the IR, I would do the CFI-IR also.
  19. My thought was, go to the 830 for now. Then eventually the plan is a Garmin G3X with EIS in the Garmin So this is interim. Otherwise, yes, the 900 makes much more sense. Would the 700 not have TIT and possible fuel flow. I guess I will have to wait to see what is actually installed.
  20. You can get specific lithium bags from RC hoobby sources. They are used typically while charging. Lithium batteries normally fail while charging or discharging, not just sitting in storage. TYPICALLY, there are exceptions. You do NOT want to fully contain them, otherwise you create a bomb. The bags are porous. They keep the flames and heat inside, but do allow the gases to escape
  21. It is too much fun to plan and decide what to do. If nothing else, it will be a while before anything is done due to lead times for units and shop time.
  22. If I were going to upgrade from EDM-700 to the 830, I know that the existing sensors can be used. But there are a number of optional sensors. Which ones should I order? IE, what should I have displayed on the 830 that was not possible on the 700 This will be going on a 252.
  23. IR will probably be in my future. Just to do it. :D'
  24. Bummer, I just bought a 252 with them already installed, so I could be sure to get them. First world problems. Excellent news
  25. Oh well, I just ordered one with a longer hose. If it too long, I will cut it off.
