  1. There are oil eating bacteria. Of course, you have to be careful that you do not let them get into oil you don't want eaten. And nothing stopping anaerobic (no O2 required) bacteria to eat oil. Yeah, I remember driving up to LA and ALL the oil wells pumping away.
  2. I think it turns out that is was a misconception. Same incandescent lamp for both. But LED does require specific to 14/28V.
  3. Or maybe just install rub blocks. If they were titanium, there would be not much weight and great showers of sparks to go with the touchdown. Like you see when F1 cars bottom out.f
  4. Hmm, I was last in SD in about 2010. GF walked the beach and ended up with some on her feet.
  5. Yeap, same in the San Diego area beaches. I grew up there in the late 50s/early 60s and had the same issue.
  6. Republic Jet just raised their prices. I was supposed to go there last Sat to have lunch with a friend and visit one or both of the nearby aviation museums. When I planned the trip, they were well under $7 per gallon.
  7. Right after the Exxon Valdez incident, the news folks were sticking microphones in front of anyone. One of the wildlife biologists responding said, on live TV, that it wasn't that big a deal, that they had one almost as bad the next bay over a few years before, and you couldn't even tell. Never saw him in TV again.
  8. Another option http://www.4pawsaviation.com/products/oxygen-hoods.php I am pretty sure none of the dogs I have owned would tolerate either of these.
  9. Where is this cheap fuel? A place to eat there? An MS fuel and lunch meet?
  10. People seem to forget, oil is biodegradable. Back in the 70s, there was a paper in Scientific American that proposed that oil is being produced all the time. The organic materials are carried into the earth and that they get trapped and are converted to oil And yes, major clean out to remove lead before other products can be carried. And the materials used to flush and clean are contaminated also and has to be disposed of as lead containing.
  11. In the A-10, as we rolled onto the runway, we did a Heat - Seat - Skid checklist. Turn on Heat - pitot and windshield. Arm Seat Turn on Anti Skid.
  12. They have been predicting that will run out of oil for MANY years. https://gizmodo.com/weve-been-incorrectly-predicting-peak-oil-for-over-a-ce-1668986354
  13. I almost had a similar short flight. And, of call places, at First Flight. We had stopped to see the site and museum. Club C-172. About 100 feet or so, had what I suspect was a stuck valve. Had enough power to slightly climb, so started a pattern to land. After about 90 degrees of turn, engine started making full power. So I circled over the field, climbing, until I had more than enough glide range to the next airfield and maintained glide to an airport back to KGAI (home base for the plane).
  14. No, you have to seriously clean anything that comes in contact with 100LL before it can be used for anything else. Or dedicate the equipment and trucks for ONLY 100LL.
  15. There are a lot of smaller companies and refineries that can blend quality fuels. The issue is, with 100LL they contaminate equipment. Another cost savings over 100LL is there is no need for dedicated trucks to transport it. If you put 100LL in a truck, you have to drain, clean, rinse and deal with the materials used to clean the truck out.
  16. I already mentioned that. I did 5 to a full stop, climb to 50 feet for each, on one pass down the runway.
  17. And part of it, even with a monopoly, a supplier can price themselves out of the market and reduce their income. It helps to have a monopoly for something that is not optional. If there is more than one UL 100 on the market, owners will have to buy multiple STCs or be VERY picky about what airports they land at. One thing in the favor of G100UL, it can be blended by anyone. And it does not contaminate equipment. So if there is money in it, there will be suppliers. And likely to be more local, cutting transport costs.
  18. I saw on another forum that the pax was sending the texts.
  19. So it works as MFD or PFD repeater. Primary PFD fails, it can still be used as a PFD. Just no redundant AHARS. Not perfect, but usable. But what does it give versus an AERA 760 mounted there?
  20. The engine is a copy of the Wright R-1820. It only requires 87 AKI (auto regular) fuel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shvetsov_ASh-62
  21. I am not sure yet. Going through the thought process.
  22. Yes. If it is a PFD, why not make it redundant, just in case? And yes, a PFD for a pilot in the right seat to use. At times, it would be used as an MFD. For a pilot in the right seat helping or pax who wants to see where we are. Not TikTok, but NetFlix would be nice for pax entertainment.
  23. I think that elevator skins are now available.
  24. That is the low cost way. But if I have doing a major panel upgrade with custom panels, why not do it right? But taking the into account, the options for the right seat are G3X 7" with PFD reversion, AERA 760, or iPad?
  25. When I flew one in Ukraine, with 4 people and maybe half fuel, the take off speed was below the ability of the airspeed indicator to read. The needle was just starting to bounce on the peg. My friend had one, and we were doing VIP rides at an airshow. And one pass down the runway, the tower called us, that they had us at 45 knot ground speed. I asked if they wanted to see a LOW speed pass. And you read all the PIREPs on flying various aircraft and they pretty much always states, "the controls are well harmonized." To truly understand that, you need to fly an AN-2. You NEED both hands on the yoke to turn. The ailerons are VERY heavy and not very effective. I can see the comment about needing two pilots to spray. If you look at the wing, the ailerons are pretty small. The elevator is VERY light and VERY powerful. And the rudder pedals feel like they are set in concrete, but you push and find yourself looking out the side window, as the rudder is very effective. But a hoot to fly. As I said, I flew it in Ukraine. And then, one of the guys who was also on the trip, ended up buying one, just because.
