  1. Latest Mooneys no longer use the straps but an embedded cavity on the door side panel were you insert your hand. The square handle on mine allows for all fingers to be inserted giving you a stronger grip than the strap. Because is made of aluminum it will last longer than the strap with no noticeable deterioration.
  2. Will this affect my old trusty pocket watch or my sun dial?
  3. Here is mine with a piece of aluminum bended 4 ways, painted and edge protectors from Pep Boys.
  4. Don't worry Eric it was not intended for your superior intellect.
  5. The USB adapters employ switching regulators to increase the dynamic range and reduce heat. You can reduce the noise they generate by putting them in the linear mode by adding a resistor in series at the cigarette lighter input. The resistor would be about 27 ohms/1 watt but it may vary depending on the load and whether your plane is 12v or 24v. Interference is sometimes coupled through the power bus. For this case try a 1000mfd/50v capacitor connected in parallel to the cigarette lighter input.
  6. Where is your hangar at FXE? Mine is on the south side next to the Sheriff ramp at 45G getting rip off at $719 including taxes , electricity and a palm tree for relief.
  7. W hangar used to be occupied by Broward Air Service owned by Pastor Bobadilla from Paraguay. A very good friend of mine that got killed on approach to KFXE. Most customers were from Latin America.
  8. I found out these rubber ear plugs https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/14-00157.php?clickkey=3008573 together with non ANR headsets provide better noise attenuation than the Bose ANR. Has any of you tried. These plugs also work nicely during an MRI scan. For $5 a set is cheaper and better than the Bose. The COM volume has to be increased to overcome the plugs attenuation
  9. Yo resido en Coral Springs y el Mooney N11606 en KFXE me puedes llamar al 954 294 9006. Jose
  10. Look for two small black knobs on the center of the main spar where the rear passengers seat.
  11. On my 1982 M20J you just pull up the reclining lever and push down forward the seat back. To have a totally flat seat you have to remove first the back cushion which just slide up.
  12. A Mooney ready to fight the fires
  13. Cuando vayas a PR traeme morcillas. Como las extrano.
  14. On your next trip to the VI try TJIG airport in San Juan Puerto Rico. TJIG is next to the old San Juan (10 min drive) full of Spanish history and very old buildings such as El Morro Castle. Back in 1513 the first Spanish governor of PR Juan Ponce de Leon departed PR NW bound and discovered Florida and the US mainland. Old San Juan has a lot nice restaurants and historic places to visit. The city resemble old Spain. Puerto Rico became a US territory since the Spanish/American war back in 1898 before it was a province of Spain. English and Spanish are widely spoken so you will not have any problem talking to the people. El Morro video https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=el+morro+san+juan&view=detail&mid=AF0311412ACBB105741AAF0311412ACBB105741A&FORM=VIRE Old San Juan video To get to TJIG file to> ZBV > A555 > DDP > TJIG . No need for US Customs upon arrival if you do the trip nonstop. However on departure (nonstop to the US) your plane needs to be inspected by the US Department of Agriculture USDA to insure no local fruits are on board. Do not have this inspection done on week ends or Holidays unless you want to pay $200. TJIG is a true GA airport with fuel and FBOs Enroute to TJIG
  15. Dave a good friend of mine who is 92 still flying with his girlfriend which is 87. Is 100 the limit? Do you qualify if you need cane to walk around?
  16. How much with the seniors discount?
  17. The owner of this plane may have no reason to open the tank because there is no leak but low drain stream that he can easily fix with a F391-72 drain valve. The idea here is to show how easily the F391-53S botom drain holes can be plugged.
  18. This is one those cases were the F391-53S drain valve would no longer work properly because the bottom drain holes are plugged like the drain holes on the bottom stiffener on the picture. You have to replace the valve with the F391-72. Notice behind the float the drain valve nut plate submerged in sealant.
  19. Always, just clean it with a cleaning pad for next user. The funnel always remain dry even if you do not clean it. I attach to the hose a female adapter for the girls.
  20. Be realistic none of the above will help you when you need to go for #1 and this will happen more often than needing to use a chute. Nothing worse than holding it up. A pilot relief tube is the best comfortable device you can have in a plane, clean, ready to use ,unlimited use and no urine disposal embarrassment. I would rather have the pilot relief tube than the parachute.
  21. But a good set of human eyes will let you know of a cow a bull or turtle crossing the runway.
  22. As the tank ages there will always be small flakes of debris (sealant flakes) that do not float but that it can flow into the -53S causing it to jam/leak. This problem does not happens with valves that drain above the debris field.
  23. On https://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=fuel drain valve Notice that most drain valves have the drain holes at the top of the thread. Why so many other planes opted for them?
  24. Check your math 1/2 gallon of water = 116 cu-in. I always check my numbers with my trusty K&E slide rule.
  25. As an engineer I always consider life cycle deterioration impact on any article I design. Debris accumulation is a form of deterioration just like in exposed high voltage insulators or water plumbing. I think your suggested solution is to remove the fuel tank access panels at every annual and clean any accumulated debris. Just make sure you wear a cap when resealing the panels to keep your hair clean of sealant.
