  1. I am always looking for a reason to fly. When and where... Mark
  2. Phillips makes a straight mineral oil in 20w50. That would probably be best to break in a turbocharged engine. Mark
  3. The type certificate data sheet will have limitations and placards listed. As has been mentioned any stc that changes the placards will have the placards so noted in the stc. Mark
  4. What is your timetable for the inspection and are they willing to lend hand tools and supplies like oil and filter? I am 162 miles away but I am committed for the next week or 2. Mark
  5. Has anyone ever heard of banner towing with a Mooney? Going through the logs I noticed it had a banner tow hook installed in 63 when it had 50 hours on it. The hook was removed in 66 so they did not do it very long however. It just seems like using a Corvette to haul gravel... Mark
  6. without seeing the whole thing it looks like the switch is upside down. Just a guess mind you. Mark
  7. okay easy enough. 2 wires from the mic jack to a pushbutton in the panel right next to the mic jack and you are done. Or you can get a push to talk that plugs into the mic jack and plug the headset into it as in the post above. I personally dont like them but they seem to work for the most part. Mark
  8. The short answer is "it depends". Do you have an audio panel and intercom? Just an audio panel? Just an intercom? Just nav coms with no audio panel or intercom? What brand equipment do you have? For the most part it is nothing more than 2 wires and a push to talk button..... Mark
  9. Where did you end up putting the 3I? I put it on the nose wheel hump but I think it kinda stands out there. Mark
  10. It is a form of binary. Most new encoders use a serial bus but the older ones use the grey code. Actually I have the stratus transponder. I did not look close enough at your transponder. It is a pretty much universal hook up though. Mark
  11. That schematic is for a grey code encoding altimeter. You will need all of the wires to provide altitude information to the transponder. I have the same transponder and I put the gps antenna on the roof just in front of where the speaker is on the inside. I removed the speaker and could fit my hand in the hole in the ceiling panel to feed the wire up through the hone in the top of the fuselage where the adf sense antenna was. I also installed the doubler on the inside through the hole to buck the rivets to it. I put nutplates on the doubler so I did not have to use nuts on the antenna hold down screws. Mark
  12. I put big dogs in a harness attached to the tie down in the baggage compartment. Leave enough slack so they can lay down on the seat or sit up. With the leash across the back of the seat they can move around without getting wrapped up in it and still cannot get into the front. I have had them climb into the baggage compartment to sleep and even had one climb onto the hat shelf to take a nap. I cover the back seat with a heavy moving blanket that will prevent urine from getting through to the seat if an accident occurs. No problems so far. As to crate size 34" long 24" wide and 24" high seems to work well. Mark
  13. That depends on which o-320 you have and which o-360 you have. The accessory cases are very different.... Mark
  14. You have the adapter for an o-320. You need an adapter for the o-360 or you will need to use the 48103 filters. I think if you pull the nipple out you will find the filter still will not fit. Not sure of that but I think it is different threads. Mark
  15. How recently was the prop installed? How much flight time since? Did you exercise the prop well before the flight? Was the oil warm? Sometimes when installing a fresh prop it has air trapped in it. It can be difficult to get the air out and it may take a bit of working the prop through its cycles to do it. Has the prop been properly greased? There is a procedure for that. Don't just start pumping grease into it or you will get to have it resealed. Mark
  16. I am a big fan of aerokroil. I use it a lot on exhaust nuts. Run the engine a bit to get it hot and then spray it on the threads while it is still hot. It will suck it up into the threads then when it cools it will usually come off. Mark
  17. One suggestion. When they say leave them to soak for 15 min don't leave them in any longer. The Hoppes will leach the alloy metals from the brass and you will turn your expensive injectors to junk . Mark
  18. You don't have to install the tender on the aircraft. I have the pigtail on the left side of the cowling where it can be accessed through the battery door. I simply open the door and plug the charger into the pigtail. takes less then a minute. Mark
  19. Installed in accordance with ac43.13. It has an extensive section on proper wiring and installations. I plug my aircraft in every time I put it in the hangar. I use a battery tender from Schumacher. It is not the $5 cheapos but one with smart monitoring. shuts off when voltage is reached. Mark
  20. I am ready to change my C over to primary but I am not sure how to start the process. Any information you can share would be most appreciated. Mark
  21. Was that not the goal of the Mooney PFM?
  22. That would be great!!! I look forward to it. I have been following this thread with great interest. Mark
  23. what supporting documentation did you have to submit with the application?. I am thinking of following the same thing and looking for any help I can get. Thanks Mark
  24. You are quite mistaken. When I worked for the airlines we installed used parts all of the time. Why throw away a $40K generator control unit when it came off of a working aircraft? Perhaps you should become familiar with a subject before you use it as an example. Mark
  25. For the armrest might I suggest west systems epoxy with microballons to thicken it up to the consistency of peanut butter. carefully spread the crack open and push some in until it is well filled. use some small spring clamps to hold it together and when it dries sand any that pushes out. It is light and very strong. Mark
