  1. Retails for $15k. If 530 was Waas it is $10 grand, but it is not so we would be looking at $6 grand for 530 plus having to sell it. $9 grand difference...
  2. Work the numbers for me. What is the price of the 540? Trade in for 530. We are $4500 to upgrade the 530.
  3. I just watched a Jay Leno’s garage video. A young 24 year old sailor (now a retired Admiral) purchased a ‘55 4 cylinder Mondial that was wrecked and unloved for $2grand. 3/4’s of his then salary. He owned the car for 58 years. He restored it in 2000. It sold for $5.8M. He could give a rats patut about the money. The time he had rebuilding, racing, restoring, showing winning with his unloved beautiful blue (for its original French owner) 5 speed 175hp baby was worth much more than the money. You get it. Some do not. Nice that there is both worlds. Degrading one world on a site that is there FOR that world gets my reply. Yours is kinder and gentler and I appreciate your ying to my yang.
  4. Here is my recent experience as a frequent tie-down guy at an airport I visit often. The airport is in a highly touristed area. There are tie down fees for ramp. They are collected “intermittently” by the airport manager. I had completed my prep and was IN THE PLANE. We had two dogs. It was hot. I had purchased 30 gallons of fuel when I arrived prior to tie down. Guy I have never met ambles over with a lab pup and after about a minute broaches the fee. My wife paid. I explained who I was and that we visit often and always take on fuel. In the future it will be a CC transaction...
  5. For all the reasons stated. Not happy. A learning opportunity? (For all involved)
  6. Agree 100% it is NOT just a CHUTE or NO CHUTE question...
  7. $150-350k for a “pre-owned” Cirrus. Wonder what kind of panel and engine I can get for $200-250k?......
  8. Is a mandatory chute repack and ADSB update as well as replacing ratty 12 year old leather a hassle, aggravation, inconvenience and grief inducing situation? How about an engine and prop overhaul? Does a 12 year old Cirrus not have these issues?
  9. PS-Enjoy your 172...
  10. You know that Mooney is still making airplanes...right? Such a weird assessment. What is with the 40-50 year old airframe comparison? You do know that Mid-body J’s were made in 80’s and 90’s much less an Eagle, right? So Mr. gloom and doom I just bought a J with modern paint scheme, Modern leather and a 300HP engine for well under $100AMU’s. The panel AND wiring was already upgraded and “updated” wiring from...horror of horrors early 80’s. When we overhaul the engine and prop it will be a known (to new limits) job. OR I could buy a used Cirrus for _______________Amu’s My plane is neither ragged or worn out, I could give a flying $#^ if anybody else wants it because they are not getting it. Yeah, buying and flying ANY airplane costs money in the end....Well duh to that.
  11. That’s a Bingo. They “say” what the mission is and then they want to put the balloons in the MidWest? That is a FAIL.
  12. Trust but verify.
  13. Question authority.
  14. I subscribe to neither of those absolutes as a philosophy I practice or a belief. I try and be vigilant regarding rules/maintenance. I am proactive in remaining competent and current. I accept that weather is ever changing and may influence my decision to fly/continue a flight at any time. I accept that other pilots might NOT follow rules. I will yield to those pilots without issue. I understand that I am fallible and so are others. I welcome technology that helps me protect myself from costly human error. I welcome input from others to help me learn and protect myself and others. I don’t believe in absolutes other than death and taxes.
  15. Asked and answered by me to you on another thread. Guess you didn’t like the answer? $12k/year for maintenance is crazy high unless you buy a P.O.S. Buy a flying Mooney that has been taken care of and $6k a year...$3k a year for maintenance is HIGH...
  16. Useful load in the Beech is likely more. We found that kids in back were good through high school for two hour flights. Now one as an adult is all that we see back there.
  17. I own an E. Another Mooneyspacer had a beautiful E and upgraded to an f33. He is having fun. Both are great planes. Can not go wrong with either in my opinion. Find the best one within your price point equipped the way you want it and enjoy.
  18. Somebody just bought that J... Reaction is A. Remorse B. Relief
  19. Not trying to offend, but if you can’t figure out your mission we probably are also not going to be able to do so.
  20. Glad they all escaped. That photo shows could of been catastrophic injuries.
  21. Gulp. (Just sent in my registration paperwork). Super sorry you are going through this. Wish I had answers, but only sympathy for your plight.
  22. What a gorgeous Mooney! As much as I love, well everything, the seats and paint are special. ENJOY!
  23. Here is first landing in six years. 446B17EB-AFDD-4D93-AE9E-828442D4C134.MOV
  24. I thought plane was not going into annual for a couple of weeks, but Brian said he started today (yesterday). All compressions were good. Timing on both mags was 2 degrees off at 24 instead of 22. Oil and filter changed. Some heat tape replaced on engine mount. Prop oil drained (was black)...Had not been done “in a while”. Airframe next. Gear retraction had not been done for six years so we shall see. We are pulling the 530 and the 330 for upgrades to get ADSB compliant. 530 gets Wass and the 330 gets ES software. The 396 gps uses one of the “close together exterior antennas and the 430 the other (non wass). The 530 antenna is on rear of plane. That will get updated to Wass and an r32 line to the 530 from 330. He is sending in to Avionics shop that will send to Garmin tomorrow. We have a refurbished magnometer for HSI that is also getting installed. The whole exhaust and engine mount were refurbished at the last annual (prior to six year lay-up) and have <300 hours on them. That is GOOD as the exhaust is EXPENSIVE (custom to Missile). A little “gunk/sludge/particles” in oil filter prior to oil change after ferry flight”. Filter was cut prior to flight and no metal (magnet) in media. No metal just a little gunk after ferry. Possibly released in engine from sitting and then being ground run hard and ferried with gear down. Saw some elevated cylinder temps on ferry. Hoping that is because gear were down. Missile exhaust is right by gear and would likely be impacted by the gear being down. We shall see. Running on condition as engine is at TBO 1700 since major overhaul. New batteries and spark plugs. Not seeing any sign of tank leaks with 20 aside for ferry. Looking forward to flying the missile. Some interest and a couple offers on our M20E, but not where we need to be for a sale yet.
  25. For the “good of the people”... In the best interest of the public... Citizens need protection... Do something...
