  1. That’s what Dan Gryder talks about, specifically on takeoff. It *sounds* ridiculous that so many people would pull rather than push in a low altitude stall, but, at least according to him, the predominant reaction is pull.
  2. KSSI in southeast Coastal Georgia. 4- J’s 1- K
  3. I haven’t been 100% happy any time someone’s ever touched it. In a perfect world, I would love to spend a year as an apprentice and do everything my way after learning the ropes, but there’s just not the time for it now.
  4. @Hank wouldn’t call it grinding noise, just the sound of a whirling handle at Mach 2. so what was your remedy? I feel like the tension is probably off kilter in the spool. Put on Jack’s and run it out?
  5. Picked up my 77J from Avionics today. Had a GFC500 installed. I did a pretty thorough preflight, but not thorough enough. I took off for a test flight, rotated, gear up..... LOUD NOISES, spinning manual gear crank. I immediately flipped it back down not knowing what I had just done. Upon further inspection, the latch was left in manual extension position. No doubt was flipped to put plastic back in and left on. Two part question: who’s the idiot, me or them? What should I do to ensure the winding is not binded, etc? I think it might be ok but maybe not. Awaiting call from Joe Cole.
  6. I have been told that the Jet Glow paint is about $7,500 per plane. Cost. I know a guy who took a discount paint job at American Aircraft Painting in Selma AL and it was a complete disaster. PP thoughts only, not a painter.
  7. Every damn time. I’m in avionics now and have had the most perfect days for flying
  8. North Carolina is a long state
  9. Excellent feedback, thanks to all
  10. Quick question for the group. I just had a GTN650 installed. Have not picked it up yet. Does Garmin load any NAV data from factory? Or do I need to get the data card updated before I leave? How does that normally work?
  11. I wish it were simpler to toggle Bluetooth devices with simplicity. I find my Bluetooth HeadPhones to be most useful Linked to my iPad, giving me traffic, and other alerts; but at the same time sometimes I’d like it to pair to my phone. Once your connected, you’re weary of disconnecting and swapping devices for fear it won’t easily swap back when you’re ready
  12. Seems like the brackets should be plastic... not metal.
  13. Howdy folks. I’ve got my J coming out of the Avionics shop next week. Had a GFC500 autopilot installed along with G5’s and 650 nav. Are there any suggested items to inspect specifically during pre-flight? I’ve read a lot about post annual inspections and am familiar with things to look for in that regard. Should I be focusing on anything specifically as it pertains to an autopilot? Thanks for your input.
  14. Mixture, Music, Master, Mags
  15. Nearly two flight hour rate for the battery running?! That’s robbery I would politely suggested where they could shove it. =)
  16. Robert Gary, the biggest fan of 275’s in the world. I thought about getting a 275 as second CDI. Spent a lot of money, I went cheaper since I only needed one more. If I own the plane long enough it’ll get full glass on the next go.
  17. I’ve got the bird in for Avionics now. Going to duel G5 and a 650 navigator and 500 auto pilot. my NAVcom two will be a 430. What say you about a second CDI let’s assume a 106. Avionics says Bing that the G5 will take GPS one and the GPS to that icon onlyHave the second CDI show either GPS or VOR. Do I even bother with a second CDI if so what’s the smart move for what drives it? Please excuse the grammar this is voice to text
  18. That’s what I was thinking. And then, I should get the version “for engines with two fuel pumps” (As opposed to gravity fed)? I assume 2 meaning, it has a mechanical and an electric boost pump.
  19. Hey guys, I am ordering an Insight G2 engine monitor for my 77J. I made the order and then my A&P suddenly passed away. I need to tell them which fuel flow transducer Mount I want with the kit and I have no idea. Any insight on which to select? There are 3 options: inline, firewall, and spine. Pictures below.
  20. Yeah, nothing fancy about the data cards for the 400/500 series. I presume it could easily change hands a couple times and end up in someone plane never knowing one way or the other, but there def has to be sketchy shops involved.
  21. Plus one for this idea. You’d have Mooney’s from all over the country show up. What better way to build energy?
  22. I was saying hello to your paint job, on behalf of my paint job. Lol I’m strongly considering a cut, polish, and ceramic. It’s still in pretty good shape
  23. Why, does it look that bad?!
  24. I’ve never considered a low pass over the airport as being reckless. I’m reading the current edition of AOPA magazine and Richard McSpadden (love his podcast) tells a safety story where someone makes a low pass on the field and he regrets not confronting the pilot about it. Seemed a little over the top to me, but... what say you about the practice of a low pass?
  25. 201Steve frequently mistaken for MooneySpacer 201er and the geographically nearby N231ER
