  1. OK ,I checked out your profile... but to "where" did you upload the video, and how do I find it? Is it on YouTube? Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
  2. My Dukes pump went to them in the mail this week. Other MS folks have had nothing but rave reviews for them and their service.
  3. It still blows my mind how much wiring there is behind the panels. At one point I had a picture of an 18" square box full of old wiring that they removed and cleaned up.
  4. Why does it need replacement?
  5. OK, so just a little back story. I acquired 1157L from the US Marshal's service in early 2018 through auction, no logs. Paid a local mechanic at KFEX to get it airworthy, which included rebuilding AD logs, full annual, and a handful of pieces and parts. Had to find some used avionics to replace the empty slots where the previous owners had removed the audio panel, transponder, and 530W. Flew it for about 50 course, and landed in the rain too fast, and clipped a runway sign with one prop. Had to have a wing skin repaired and a prop strike, which turned into a full engine overhaul. During that fix in the fall of 2019, upgraded to a used 330ES transponder to meet ADSB-out mandate. The upgraded transponder failed the flight check, which led me to Mr. Thom Duncan, in Fayetteville, TN. There was a gentleman that worked at one of the big avionics shops in Nashville that lived close by. He was always helpful to the little local guys doing some part time jobs and giving guidance to GA pilots (because the shop he worked for worked mostly on turbines and turboprops). He gave me Thom's name. Flew to his shop at KFYM. He and his guys looked at things, adjusted a couple settings, and I flew. No joy. Swapped one other thing, and told me to go home and let him know when I landed. Passed! From that meeting, I told him that I wanted to upgrade my #2 com, a KX165, and get rid of some old weight. Sure, he said, we can do it. In about 4 months! So I laid down a deposit to hold my spot. In that intervening time, I pursued this forum, as well as eBay, and looked at all the possibilities! Dreaming with an airplane can be EXPENSIVE! I found a used Aspen 2000 system with tags. Purchased this. If I wanted to get rid of vacuum instruments and lose more weight, I needed to replace the old AI, and also found an EA100 to drive the autopilot. Bought an AV20S hoping that would work as a back-up AI (no joy, is NORSEE only). Also bought an upgrade to go from my JPI800 to an 830, and a digital clock. So I call Thom to tell him my updated plans about a month prior to our appointment. He is a little flustered, but admits that he can probably try to move things around and make it work (I told him I would be VERY flexible with my time frame). Install time comes, and they begin their work. Roadblock #1, the EA100 I got was kaput. He swapped it as a core with Aspen for a rebuilt model. Cha-ching. A week later, the rebuilt one dies, so they send a factory new one (thanks Aspen!). He was kind enough to tell me early on that the AV20S didn't meet certification as a back-up AI, but a G5 does, and he happens to be a Garmin dealer now, so add one of those! Cha-ching. Roadblock #2, there was a fault in my KAP150 computer, so after troubleshooting that, we send it out for a swap to a refurbed unit. Cha-ching. Fixes the AP issue. A few days before ready to pick up, the MFD display gets stuck trying to initialize past the ADHRS... called Aspen, sounds like the older board in the unit would likely need replacing. Why not just upgrade both systems to MAX displays??!! Cha-ching!!! Finally get everything together and working and in order. They also fixed some pitot/static leaks, and re-certified us for IFR flight, I just cannot say enough good things about Thom and his crew. He dealt with my fiasco, he had an emplyee in a bad car wreck, he and another employee moved houses. And, he dealt with years of patch-worked wiring. https://www.thomduncanavionics.com Their shop is now certified dealers for Garmin, Aspen, and STec. They also specialize in autopilot troubleshooting and repairs, but focus on new autopilot installs. So, if you are looking for a shop to do some work in the southeast, and don't mind the travel, you will get nothing but personal attention and fantastic workmanship. Before, during, and after:
  6. eBay has VSI Prices all over the place. 50-150. how about $30, I’ll cover the shipping?
  7. Nope, no altitude pre-select...
  8. On eBay, the cheapest altimeter I saw was $75. I'll take $60 if you want it.
  9. Sold the altimeter, VSI, KX 165. Again, make me an offer! -Charlie Following items were working when removed from our 1982 M20K, SN 25-0654. 14volt system. No tags or paperwork, just the parts, so offer accordingly. I do have racks/connectors/backplates for them, and will be included. ADF display was scrambled. KX-165 - SOLD KLN90B would shut off intermittently??? Open to any and all offers!
  10. I would LOVE to do it! My -LB already has an intercooler. Couldn't we just remove it, and hang an -MB, then , like MikeA said, do a 337 or get a field approval? From Wikipedia: TSIO-360-MB 210 hp (157 kW) at 36" mp and 2700 rpm, Minimum fuel grade 100 or 100LL avgas, compression ratio 7.50:1. Same as the TSIO-360-LB except for intercooler, wastegate controller, maximum manifold pressure, and cluster manifold.[5] What I would really love to do would be to put a PBS TP100 on the front. Now we're really talking!
  11. FWIW: Our '82 K had the TurboPlus intercooler and Merlyn waste gate already installed. Having said that, It is my impression that I still have to be careful not to overboost, especially on take-off. It is not truly an "automatically adjusting waste gate." Therefore, I can't just push it to the firewall for out take-off roll. You can actually read the details on the Merlyn website.
  12. I was looking at this same thing recently. I upgraded my 800 to an 830 (which is essentially a bigger/better display). I was told by JPI that the harnesses and sensors were the same, but with the 900 series monitors, because they are certified replacements, they are sold only as a full kit. You could then try top resell the probes and harness, but otherwise you have a higher out of pocket expense.
  13. Are these carbon fiber or aluminum? Weight? My had expired and is removed, may be a good time to re-install.
  14. McFarlane just rebuilt my 1982 K manual cowl flap control cable. Removed the broken cable, sent it to them, and was back in my hands recreated in under 2 weeks. Actually seemed to be of better quality than the original! https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/articles/flight-control-cables/content/
  15. FWIW, the JPI 700 can/will display %Power, but I think you have to add RMP and fuel flow modules ??? Mine displays it. Check in the User's Manual
  16. Thanks! I had tried the sales email, will hit up the other two as well!!!
  17. Help!!! In the midst of avionics upgrade. Moving from a JPI EDM700 to an 830, and moving locations as well. The old harness is to short to make the transition seamlessly. I had spoken with JPI prior to the shutdown, and do know they make and offer a harness extension. I’ve obviously tried to call and email, but haven’t heard back. Does anyone have an inside connection that I can reach out to to order one? Otherwise I may be waiting until California allows them to go back to work. I posted this both here and to the Mooney Owners’s FB page, hoping to reach someone!
  18. Looking at you pictures again in admiration, and wondering what your placard says under the transponder regarding the 430 and 530?
  19. Nice! I'm on for the 18th to drop mine off for a much needed upgrade to an Aspen 2000 system. Can't wait. And, I will be removing some similar equipment, so it's nice to see that much in weight savings!
  20. I had a somewhat similar situation with the steering horn pivot point (blue arrow) on my '82K. Only on the newer frames, the design was a little different. Instead of a bolt through a bushing, it was a welded pin which broke off the frame. Regardless, LASAR sells a beefed-up kit and steering horn. I'm sure they can address that if you are already planning on sending in your nose gear truss. look under the MODS section on their website. It is currently listed as "unavailable", however, they had the part I was needing on the shelf, just didn't send the entire kit. They priced it accordingly and included the STC paperwork.
  21. My '82K has removable seats! But, it also has the one piece belly, which I know was added on...
  22. Did you remove them to recover, or recover in place? They look great.
  23. Is it me or is his/her canopy gone? Wonder if that is standard protocol...
  24. It has an external battery, but I'm hoping that there will be more incentives coming as well... Regarding the listing regarding @Avionics Source, what is the BT that you are referring to? BeechTalk??
  25. To date, I have purchased a 530W, a PMA8000BT, a 430(non-was), and recently an Aspen E2000 system that is now in line to get 1. MAX upgraded with 2 yr warranty, and 2. installed by the avionics shop. Almost got scammed once, but caught it, and didn't end up losing any money. Again, as mentioned above, you have to use a little judgement and possible some luck! Likewise I have sold some stuff on eBay as well, most recently a Garmin 480. Turned out the guy was close to me, and his wife was a little skittish, so I flew to his airport (good excuse to fly), and we made a cash deal in person!
