  1. I just ordered a new intake boot for my 180hp from lasar. My last oil analysis showed a little aluminum. Not a lot, and they noted it wasn't concerning at this time, but keep an eye on it. I had the cowl off for a landing light replacement and noticed that the folks that did my annual didn't install the dog house correctly and it was rubbing A LOT. there was powdered aluminum in the bottom of the cowl. I was wiping it out and noticed my intake boot has holes all over it. It is in terrible condition. I'm hoping the raised aluminum in the oil analysis is a result of that situation.
  2. I spent a lot of time on cessna172club.com when I was training for my private. Seemed like good guys
  3. Believe it or not, yesterday was a perfect IFR day. DVT was 3.1 vis, 2100’ ceilings. I very nearly couldn’t even fly from DVT to SDL to meet the examiner. We had to fly a very different check ride than he’s used too because the ceilings were so low we couldn’t shoot any of the approaches he wanted to use without us actually filing.
  4. Standard 6 pack and 430w
  5. Get a good examiner. That's the best tip I can give, lol. Don't fly too high or too low. Know your weather. That was my weakest part. Acceptable, but weak
  6. Logged my 250th flight hour and passed my IR checkride. Woohoo!
  7. I know a month is too long. When my throttle cable broke, we rescheduled my checkride and didn’t really get any IR practice in for about that long. It showed on the next flight. also, I just realized.... today is the 1 year anniversary of earning my PPL!
  8. Checkride is next Sunday. I’ve been flying the wheels off the airplane. Did 2.4 tonight. Honestly, this was the first flight where I felt like i knew what I was doing lol. I didn’t finish up with my shirt soaked through with sweat. I did 2 perfect DME arcs, flew a VOR approach to kcgz for the first time (we’ve always done the ILS) and looked up on short final perfectly aligned. Flew a great ILS into KIWA, a VOR-C into SDL and a RNAV 25L into DVT. My altitudes were perfect, needles perfectly centered, I got my holds right. A few more flights to go before the ride. I’m feeling pretty good!

  10. Skip and I checked out his foreflight W&B yesterday. He still needs to adjust it to his specific plane, but we got the bulk of the problem figured out. Foreflight had everything in feet, but his entries were all in inches.
  11. Shoot me a text. 623-313- five six nine six
  12. Are you SURE of your setup? Similar weights in my C would put me roughly 50lbs over gross. The plane will fly, and relatively normally, as long as you’re within the limits. It won’t climb as fast, might need more or less back pressure to lift off and may flare considerably differently. And you’d be really surprised that that 15lb handbag in the baggage compartment makes a much bigger difference than you might expect. as others have said, you really need to talk to a CFI (especially if you’re actually considering trying to fly past the limits to make your friends happy...)and run through the numbers with them. You only get to make so many mistakes....
  13. When are you usually around the field? I could meet up with you and run through it with you? I’m flying the Sim tomorrow night and then flying an IR lesson Thursday morning. I’ll be at the field Wednesday afternoon/evening filling up the plane for my Thursday am flight.
  14. And the reviews are AWFUL
  15. It’s entirely possible the PIC of that flight enlisted his wife to make the initial call to the tower and read back the landing clearance.
  16. Or you could be like me, tuned into tower about 25 miles out.. flying your wife and her best friend and thinking it would be cute to pretend you’re an airline pilot and read them the “beginning our descent, weather, thanks for flying with us” speech and at the end realize by habit you keyed the mike and broadcast the whole thing. Oops.
  17. Yeah, I’ve only used it locally, I haven’t tried it out of town. There are some pretty slick cars available here though. Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc.
  18. I’ve used it a couple times and had pretty good luck
  19. Thanks but looks like I have it covered, procured a DG to get me through the checkride while my G5 DG/HSI is on order.
  20. I was referring to the annunciator panel, well he was
  21. My POH identifies it.
  22. Yes it does have an iris
  23. I’ve heard an IA object to that specific topic. Red is only for “danger”, green for “things are good to go”, and blue for “it’s on”.
  24. Oh believe me, I’m heavily eyeballing the G5. But, thats more like 4 AMU, vs 1. Im going to call them (and others) in the AM, just looking for recommendations on who to call (more importantly who NOT to, lol).
  25. My DG crapped out. Made for an exceedingly fun Instrument training flight. We started with a zero/zero takeoff. As we were intercepting the radial for the departure procedure, the DG did a couple spins. Hm that’s not good. CFII says, well, I guess well do this whole flight partial panel. So he covered the DG and AI. We did several holds, a DME arc, an ILS, a VOR circling approach, and a GPS LPV. Logged 1.9 partial panel. At any rate, I need a new DG or an overhaul. Century Instruments lists an exchange for under 1amu, but the price list is quite old. DG is a 200-3 or G-520A (it’s listed as the same item everywhere I look). My IR checkride is scheduled for 3/11, so I’m on a bit of a crunch. I already delayed my checkride over a broken throttle cable, so I don’t want to delay it again! Is century good to deal with? Any other suggestions?
