  1. My plane had 4 points. I would not recommend them. Mine were likely not legal (nothing in logbooks, no TSO tags, etc) and actually useless when I saw how they were attached... mostly they were uncomfortable. Either they were so loose that you might as well not be wearing them or tight enough that you couldn't reach comm2 or change the fuel without taking them off. I wouldn't have 4 points again.
  2. Wow, this was a much bigger project than anticipated. Still working on the rear belts. Had to pull the back seat to even get the old ones out. About halfway through I thought maybe the old seat belts maybe weren't so bad, but I kept at it! Up next, dropping the plane off in Chino to have the front seats reshaped and recovered, the yokes wrapped, and then when it comes back, new carpet!
  3. I can think of same ways to do it, but getting the wheel up onto the platform would be a challenge. Maybe figure out a way to adapt this to a towbar? I’m not sure how the wheels would hold up though.
  4. I can’t believe I didn’t even think of that. I used to be really big into mobile car audio installations and I used fiberglass all the time to make mounts and things for speakers. It would be a snap!
  5. The original is long gone. It was just small pieces when I bought the plane. I might pull the carpet, put down some plastic wrap, and make a fiberglass piece. That's not a bad idea. It would be pretty easy
  6. Yeah, I was going to shoot him a message. Just from looking at the pics, I don’t think the latter would work. Pretty sure the hole in my floor is quite a bit bigger.
  7. Not a chance it’s certified. It only has a single comm radio. I don’t think it would be possible to have a more basic panel, and still be legal to fly in the mode c ring.
  8. I’m replacing the carpets and I’d like a new plastic trim piece that goes around the selector. Mine broke long ago. Everywhere I’ve been looking only has the trim for the C models with the sump ring. Mine does not have that and is just a round hole. Anyone have any ideas?
  9. Good point. I admittedly didn’t pay attention to the avionics. That said, people are asking that around my area for much much worse condition Cs. Case in point - https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/for/d/mooney-20c-mark-21-aircraft/6555462708.html i looked at this one today (its at my field). It’s in pretty good shape, cosmetically, but it’s stuck in 1972. I doubt he’ll get 39k for it. Although some part of me hopes he does. It just means mines worth more to the right buyer lol.
  10. That seems ridiculously underpriced
  11. The broker told me many Mooney and Grumman owners are moving from Starr to Global this year. Starr apparently took a beating on those 2 makes last year...
  12. You're right. It's not smooth. The layout of the quote made me skip over the 100k per passenger limit. On the starr side it's all on one line, on the global its on a separate line. I did catch one other difference. Global doesn't cover flights to the Caribbean while starr does.
  13. 1mm smooth. 51k hull ground and motion. $0 deductible
  14. I've been with Starr insurance. When I bought my Mooney I had under 5 hours complex time. About 80tt. Zero in a Mooney. My annual premium was ~$1500. Now, I'm instrument rated. Nearly 300tt. Almost 200hrs complex/mooney time. Starr decided my rate should be ~$2100. That was a shock, to see it go up so much, not at all what I expected. I got another quote from Global Aerospace, and bound a policy with them. $915 for the year. And a much much more liberal open pilot policy, with all the other coverages being identical. I guess Starr doesn't want to write mooney policies this year.
  15. Buried in the pleats. I ran a magnet all over them and this is what it picked up. No other visible metals of any kind
  16. 1540 SMOH. 220 SNEW cylinders. This is all the metal I could find in the filter. The small little ball appears to be carbon. The rest is ferrous. Very thin "shavings". Good? Bad? About what you would expect? I have no idea, so...
  17. Won a couple awards! Best short body Mooney and longest flight!
  18. What an amazing turnout! Everyone was awesome! If I didn't say hi, sorry! There were so many people there! A really beautiful day!
  19. Heading to bed for an early wakeup and preflight. See you guys and girls in the morning!
  20. No, all the other readings are rock steady. I will contact EI tomorrow and let them know all the issues and see what they suggest
  21. Is there a good (read easy) way to test that?
  22. Flew KDVT-KVGT-KDVT today. Total time including taxi was 4.2. My UBG does not totalize, but it was showing 11.3GPH flow (never less than 10.9) for essentially the entire cruise portion of the flight. I planned on burning 39.5 gallons (I’m conservative on fuel). I burned 33.4. Going off the UBG, I should have burned at least 46 gallons. True average GPH was ~8gph. I think it might be time to send the unit back. I also noticed today that cyl 1 was bouncing all over the place temp wise. 200 degrees egt to 1300 in a split second and everywhere in between. It might not be the fuel meter at all.
  23. Played corporate pilot and flew my wife and her friend to Vegas last night. Planned arrival just after sunset so they could enjoy the lights. Usually get the Cortez route to VGT, but last night they vectored right over the approach end of mccarran and then right over the strip. It was beautiful. Only "fun" part was the slam dunk. They restricted me to 6500 until I was less than 8 miles from VGT. Thankful for speed brakes. Dropped her like a rock and hit pattern altitude (3000) just abeam midfield. Here's a pic of heading home. I love flying at night!
  24. I'm thinking something is faulty. Maybe wearing out? I used to be able to get the FF down to under 8gph with 17/2400 and aggressively learned, but now I pretty much can't get it under 10gph no matter what. And my actual fuel burn tells me that something isn't jiving. I'll drop a line to EI and see what they have to say
  25. My UBG-16 seems to be reading my fuel flow quite incorrectly. I’ll set the stage. Wednesday evening I flew from KTYL to KDVT with full fuel. For the entire flight, my FF was showing around 11.5 to 12gph at 20” and 2450rpm. Leaned 25 ROP. Very close to an hour in the air. I would expect to have burned at least 12 gallons. Last night, I flew KDVT to KVGT, I did not top off since KTYL. Flight time was right at 2 hours (pretty strong headwinds). FF was showing similar, around 11.5 gph, roughly the same power settings. I expected to burn about 24 gallons (including taxi fuel, etc) So, given the ‘displayed’ burn rates, I expected to top off and take on about 36 gallons at KVGT. Instead, filling the tanks to the brim took only 25.1 gallons. Couldn’t get in another ounce. So, it would appear my average fuel flow is more along the lines of 8.5 gph than 11.5. Is this something that can be calibrated? Pic leaving Las Vegas, about 8pm last night. I love flying at night, so beautiful.
