  1. What I do is differ t than others…. I have bought a 200 watt heater/blower manufactured by enginheaters…it is solid state and explosion proof. I insert it in the pilot side cowling opening #2 cylinder…then I cover the entire cowling with a very well insulated blanket. it self regulates to 70 degrees which keeps engine warm without overheating with the fact that heat rises, the upper part of the engine stays the warmest and most likely the oil would be the coolest…any formation of condensation should be on the oil…and such minor moisture would be “steamed” off when the engine is running
  2. Kmpo poconos municipal airport….during the week they let me drive the crew car…in the past and on weekend I used to Uber/Lyft which ran about $25 each way to Camelback. as for the snow, I knew it was a dry snow from the night and that runway had been cleared prior to that…and breeze was right down runway
  3. Buy the LHS…landing height system…I find with this device 10% of my landing are “good” and 90% of my landing are “super soft” smooth landing extend the life of tires, brakes, fuel tank sealants, all of the landing gear joints, bearings etc. After installation, it will call out your landing heights for every landing…hopefully thousands of them. you can search the topic and read about it
  4. Flew from easton md to mount poconos yesterday for a great day of skiing. took off ifr to 7,000’ and was fortunate to poke through a few thin clouds along the way noticing zero ice. (Also no pirep of ice)…after overflying about 75 miles of broken sky, and cancelling ifr at 10miles visual…my destination airport was lightly scattered but I saw snow on the runway….as I dip down to 150’ agl I notice a large plow on the far side of the runway…after go around, plow left the runway and I proceeded to make my first unplowed snow runway landing…quite uneventful…it was like an inch of snow maybe a little more…it shortened my landing distance. There were no notams …plow driver had no radio, but was told to expect my arrival…
  5. As for making a custom hand tow bar, as an electrician, I took a piece of rigid conduit and I custom bent a slightly longer tow bar to give me improved leverage. It worked great for years, until last year when I was lucky enough to land a barely used sidewinder….the biggest issue for me is ice…other than that, it’s wonderful tool. I check the battery bars every use….when it goes to 2(out of 4) I put it on charge
  6. Absolutely right Skip….I made connections myself wit AI watching and I did heat shrink to stress relieve…all good noe
  7. One wire was broke off…second wire broke as I unplugged it
  8. I have the exact same issue….about 450 hours on the JPI installation….will check connections, but am prepared to change the transducer
  9. 150 a year….highest was 220.
  10. I with help of ai I installed a Lycomming factory io360a3b6d in 2018…and it ran well, but not great numbers…the annual in 2021, with 450 hours on the engine, we sent out the mag to get it inspected…it cost $1,500 to get repairs done including replacing both coils. engine runs with EGTs at least 50 degrees colder LOP…much greater cruise speed at all power settings….and better fuel economy. my J had never really come close to book numbers…now I am. At 2500 rpm, 25.8mp 100rop I was able to achieve 165k true airspeed in both directions (2,300#)
  11. With Bose a20 it’s a dip switch in battery compartment
  12. I have a KMA24b that came out of my plane …I will send it to you if you’d like to try it…LHS worked perfectly with my old KMA other than fact that my LHS had to be set on full volume. Just send me $20 for shipping. carusoam made a great point of making sure your headphones are set for “mono” I replaced my audio panel late last spring because a friend of mine got a new one on his Musketeer and I learned how nice it was to have crystal clear audio, and direct Bluetooth music to me and my passengers. The new audio panel did cost close to $5,000 because the avionics group wanted to pull all new wires….including rear jacks…I went with the garmin gma345. You can install the PMA but you still have to wire out the intercom system. crystal clear audio system improves ATC communication and cuts the fatigue of flying.
  13. If you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas…this is a great treat to add to your plane. once you buy it, you will get to use this great tool for every landing. please keep in mind with every marginal and poor landing you have you shorten the useful life of your landing gear components and sealing of the in wing fuel tanks. Even consider that it could help you avoid a gear up event with the “check your gear” call out. you can minimize installation expense if you run the interconnecting cable during your annual when panels are removed. with LHS i grease over 90% of my landings…Ito me this couldn’t be accomplished without it. My testimony is without any compensation…I have no connection to the company I just feel it offers such value for fellow M20 owners
  14. I pad mini6 mounted to the yoke with a clamp…I couldn’t be happier with the location…using all RAM components. Clamp is attached to one 4 bolt flange…the flange in the middle I ground away so that holder sits flush to the yoke centerpiece.
  15. One other thing…what’s the rush to drop the gear….I wouldn’t drop my gear until short final…even if I ended up doing a belly landing if I didn’t have the juice to get it down in time
  16. I had the exact same experience with the parentheses 2 bulb…that’s why I switched to Aero lite… whelen much brighter, but offered zero taxi help
  17. Please do not take offense to this question….what would you have done if you didn’t have insurance on the plane?
  18. Before you do anything…take the cowling off and check the … 1. Grounding wire to the transducer 2. Wire leaving transducer and going back to the gage in the case of my plane, wires snapped independent of each other about 2 months apart
  19. On my J …down to 0 degree F my interior bakes when I fully open the heater vent
  20. sorry Clarence…”there’s no such thing as a free lunch”
  21. Just for the record, Kelly was much more expensive than I expected, mainly because they condemned both coils as “cracked”. They were very quick getting the mag back to me….however, while they replaced the points, the two mags were not synchronized so, it had to be removed again after install. previous mag went for 450hrs on a Lycomming factory rebuilt engine… with rebuilt mag, I am getting about 50 degrees cooler EGTs, better lean of peak power and MPg…. with the old mag, we checked timing every annual and it was good…not sure what factor is producing the engine performance changes. spark plugs were not changed (tempest fine wire) only cleaned.
  22. To do it right….including repainting it should be at least 20 hours. I took a full week to get it done
  23. I ordered from Airtex early at the beginning of Covid….the factory was 100% shit down, they shipped half of my order (they had product in stock). The other half came 8 weeks later. as airplane parts go, I felt i got a lot of quality for the money.
  24. You mentioned you would be looking for a used plane…I saw this ad on Facebook…
  25. All I can say is wow…. how much was the paint job and how long did they take…how long was the wait time to get your plane in with them?
