not mooney-specific but involves Bose headsets
Stetson20 replied to 231LV's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
https://www.lightspeedaviation.com/product/delta-zulu-anr-headset/ I was looking at this one as it has integrated CO monitoring. Thoughts? -
I'll look for the USB port. Yes, the MP and Prop RPM are flip flopped from the actual controls (not a big deal, but distracting). I agree it's probably a config setting. I need a GPU so I can sit in the plane and fiddle with the new equipment without worrying about running my batteries down! Along with the air compressor, shop tools, and 1000s of other support equipment and materials I should have!

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Stetson20 replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
American doesn't even have any MAX 7 or MAX 10 aircraft on order, eh? No politics in play here at all... The exemption would *maybe* affect a small percentage of AA pilots (how many 737s do they have?) but would definitely affect ALL SWA pilots, for obvious reasons. Full disclosure- I work for Southwest. /rant Sorry for the thread drift -

Yesterday I was able to get the GI-275 to link to my iPad and Garmin Pilot. Didn't go fly. Today we have a cold front with low ceilings and icing over most of Michigan. I will have Savvy data available on my next flight (crossing my fingers) once the weather improves. Did any of y'all notice what's wrong/weird/different on my display? Most of my time is flying turbine engines (military/airline) so I didn't notice the discrepancy, but a very experienced GA/freight/corporate friend went up with me and noticed it right off the bat- my MP and Prop RPM indicators are swapped! That's also on my list to address when I take my plane back to the avionics shop when the weather cooperates...
-
Tomorrow I'm taking it up again. I will attempt to connect the GI-275 to Garmin Pilot. I have the Garmin Pilot subscription, and hope to be able to download the data after the flight. Edit- I don't have the Savvy subscription yet. It's on my "to do" list. Now moved up in priority. I'll call them Monday.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
Stetson20 replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Boeing fiasco? I'm interested to hear more details Are we talking about the MAX 7? Just curious. -
Paul, I just recently got the airplane back from panel upgrade and have not gotten on the Savvy program yet. This is literally taken on my 2nd flight in the plane since new panel and just-installed engine monitor. Making the call to Savvy Monday. I have Garmin Pilot, but still trying to figure out how to sync the program to my GI-275. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take more pics at different power settings. I was doing an orientation flight, learning the autopilot, gps and engine monitor systems.. Roy Millwood

Any thoughts from the community? I'm showing EGT approx 200 deg higher than CHT and 100 deg hotter than TIT. My A&P suggests switching probes to see if the discrepancy moves with the probe. Pic attached.

Thanks for the replies! @Jerry 5TJ and @Danb see y'all there!

Stuck the post here as it seemed to be the best forum for the subject. I'm planning to go. Anyone else?

Corrosion considerations for extended ramp parking?
Stetson20 replied to Stetson20's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
That's a good plan, except I wanted to fly it while in FL for the two months. I could also just leave it here in MI and have a buddy fly it on the rare vfr day during winter. West Michigan is notorious for overcast skies during winter. My wife complained about it one year and I said bs.. Then started counting overcast days on Feb 1st.. 28 days later, I had counted 26 overcast days! We've since jointly agreed that we will attempt to winter down south somewhere each year. This year it's FL panhandle and Myrtle Beach. BTW, ramp space at MYR is only $70/mo if any of y'all want to escape the harsh midwest winter! -
Not to hijack the thread but my A&P swung the gear several times last week. There seems to be an electrical issue. When all my avionics and lights are turned on, the amperage draw is over 55A, then the screen display will just blank it out. (Attached pic of the display in flight a couple weeks ago. You can see the blanked out Amps in the lower right of the display)... They're still troubleshooting and I hope to get it resolved soon, as I am enrolled in the MAPA PPP in Reading, PA later in the month. Crossing my fingers, as I wasn't able to make the Mooney Summit because the plane wasn't done.

The tire change was during the annual. They also swung the gear. I assume the gear was swung *after* the tire change. My local A&P is set to swing the gear today.

Corrosion considerations for extended ramp parking?
Stetson20 replied to Stetson20's topic in Florida Mooney Flyers
It'll be parked outside on the ramp for 2-4 months. I plan to be along the gulf coast, and up the east coast near Myrtle Beach from Dec-Mar this year. Frequent washing and keeping the plane covered seems to be the best mitigation strategy. Thanks for the input! -
Posted in the Florida Mooney Flyers forum as I intend to park my Mooney in Pensacola for Jan and Feb while escaping the Michigan winter. Obviously, hangar space is at a premium. I've been quoted a reasonable $100/mo at Ferguson (82J) near Navy Pensacola. Any thoughts on parking that near the ocean for an extended period of time? I'm planning to be there two months. TIA! Would a new MLG tire be a possible cause for gear retraction cycle to pop the circuit breaker? Just got mine out of annual and twice (actually 3 times) now, the MLG cb popped during retraction cycle. Avionics tech thought it was a stray ground wire crossing an unshielded portion of the gear wiring behind the main panel. I found out that wasn't the cause when I retracted the gear on climbout. My local A&P is scheduled to swing the gear tomorrow to see what may be the cause. He also told me that circuit breakers "get old and tired" and sometimes need to be replaced. He's going to check the amperage draw through the retraction cycle while swinging the gear. Anybody have any insight? Thanks!

New panel installed. It really highlights how tired the old glareshield is. The avionics guy said it was like holding a cardboard pizza box when he was trying to reinstall it. Any ideas where/who to contact for a new one? TIA

No injuries. Kudos to the frazzled pilot.

I have corresponded with and talked to Lela Hughes from MAPA concerning the PPP in October. She was very prompt with responding. She may be able to direct y’all to the right place concerning MAPA membership questions. Lela Hughes 210 two eight nine 6939 lelahughes 49 @ @gmail.com (no spaces) YMMV

I'm signed up for the October PPP at KRDG. Anyone else going?

Entire panel was 80s vintage, except for GNX 375. Took out pretty much everything except autopilot. WX radar, old king radio stack, strike finder, adf, etc. Many weeks of delays. New panel will have GI-275 engine monitor (no pre-existing engine monitor so probes had to be installed as well), G5 HSI, all new ics/com/nav consisting of PS Engineering PMA8000, Garmin GNC 255A, Garmin GTR 200B and a pre-existing GNX 375. I feel it will be a solid IMC platform for the future.
