  1. Yup. The quote for my "budget" config with the 750/650 replaced with a GNC375 and GNC255 is still north of $100K. I'm still collecting quotes. Cheers, Rick
  2. I got a quote last week for almost that exact panel. It will only cost me about 23% less than the current value of my airplane. What a bargain. Cheers, Rick
  3. A 40% discount coupon for the panel upgrade I should have done last year.
  4. I have an SI authorization for sleep apnea that is good for five years, requiring an annual Class 2 physical and submitting all of the required data/reports to my AME. But it’s a CACI (Condition AMEs Can Issue) authorization and my AME gives me a renewed medical certificate on the spot. We mail the data package to Oklahoma City and I’m good to go for another year. I got a letter asking for more data once, but that letter said I could continue flying on my issued certificate while they reviewed the data. My five year authorization letter has been renewed twice with no issues. Not all SIs are the same, but if yours is truly just for sleep apnea I’d ask your AME about requesting an extended CACI authorization. Cheers, Rick
  5. @Ned Gravel and @ragedracer1977 are correct. It is only mentioned in one place in Foreflight documentation, in the Foreflight Legends Guide on page 17. There are references in the main Foreflight Mobile Pilot’s Guide to the XM storm cell predictions but nothing about the internal Foreflight storm track prediction capability. Cheers, Rick
  6. This is exactly what Boeing did to me. In true Boeing passive-aggressive style they wouldn’t directly tell me and other pilots no, they just levied a new requirement for $3M liability that none of us as personal entities were able to get. We had been able to fly with VP approval and $1M liability up to that point. I loved the work, the culture not so much. Cheers, Rick
  7. I use a Bluetooth adapter something like this, although a much older iteration. Makes it just like playing music in your car from your phone. https://smile.amazon.com/Upgraded-Bluetooth-Cancelling-Headphones-Hands-Free/dp/B08KY684PB/ref=sr_1_4?crid=12C1U0TXZTB9G&keywords=bluetooth+car+adapter&qid=1670126157&sprefix=Bluetooth%2Caps%2C103&sr=8-4 Cheers, Rick
  8. I’m going to ask an obvious question that I’d guess you’ve probably already checked but - did you double check your aircraft profile to see what you have set for the maximum ceiling under Altitudes? I noticed some minor changes in my aircraft profiles with some of the updates in the last year or so. Where are you seeing the limited winds aloft? In the FPL edit mode or somewhere else? Cheers, Rick
  9. $400 for a package of equipment worth over $500 on the used market. All you'll need to supply is the mounting hardware. Everything is in like new condition. I upgraded to an iPad Mini 6 with my iPhone as backup so I'm offering this as a complete package (minus the mounting hardware). I keep the iPad and Pencil in an easily removed case (included) when not in the cockpit, and I added a silicone pencil holder to the side of the X-Naut. Also included is an adapter for charging the Apple Pencil directly from a lightening cable, and a dedicated Apple Pencil charging cable. I never liked the idea of the pencil sticking out the bottom of the iPad while charging. iPad battery is in good condition and supports 5+ hours continuous operation of Foreflight at half brightness. iPad Mini 5 Wifi+Cellular 128GB Apple Pencil version 1 X-Naut Cooling Case Case for iPad & Pencil Apple Pencil charging accessories The package price is $400, and $400 shall be the price , and this is an all or nothing deal. If you buy it and determine it doesn't work for you just send everything back to me and I'll return your money. Direct Message me if interested. Cheers, Rick
  10. A tragic loss of life. My hope is this event will serve to improve future Airshow safety rather than lead to an end of commemorative aircraft performances. Does anyone have access to the Standard Operating Procedures or Airshow Performer’s Guide published for this event? Knowing what published/briefed rules and procedures were in place would inform our individual assessments and opinions. @KSMooniac, @Pinecone, have you possibly seen these documents posted on the other forums you’ve referenced? In my opinion and experience more operational rules are seldom the best answer, and simple, clearly defined altitude, track, and lateral restrictions for deconfliction work best. But every show is different. If we can know what was in place we can more accurately assess if a violation of the briefed rules occurred and was causal, or if perhaps the rules and procedures were inadequate. Aircrew qualification and practice requirements are another area to look at. But until I know this information any speculation on my part would be uninformed and ill advised. Rick
  11. Ouch. Good preflight inspection find by your designated pilot. Did he find anything else? A little more time, a little more money and you'll be back on course. Cheers, Rick
  12. Thanks Lance, I had a very small oil leak on top of the engine in the area of #5 that has since been fixed so this may be some residual oil finding it's way through the cooling vanes. I hadn't seen anything like this before. I'll clean it up and check again in 5 hours or so. Cheers, Rick
  13. Ok, what am I looking at here? What causes it and how do I keep it from happening? I'm guessing a have a leaky gasket but how does that cause the black residue? And yes, the picture is upside down. I don't have Anthony's photo manipulation skills. Cheers, Rick
  14. @DonMuncy I clip my Sensorcon Pro in the middle of my chest on the shoulder strap of my seat belt. I can both hear the alarm and feel the vibration when it alarms while wearing Bose A20s. Cheers, Rick
  15. Atlas Aviation at KTPF is a major sponsor of this year’s Summit and I’d personally appreciate your support of Atlas through your fuel purchases. They are giving us a $0.75 per gallon discount on 100LL during the Summit, and a purchase of only 10 gallons will waive the $30 overnight transient ramp fee. Please support our generous sponsor! Please review the information at this link Mooney Summit VIII Attendee Information Update for flight safety information and recommended arrival and departure procedures into and out of KTPF this weekend. The airspace is a bit tight but with a little study and planning you will have no problems with your VFR arrival and departure. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend! Best regards, Rick
  16. GARMIN and Sarasota Avionics have joined in sponsoring our Silent Auction with a Garmin Aera 760 package worth over $2,000! Register to bid at https://app.galabid.com/summit8auction/items Happy bidding! Cheers, Rick
  17. Bumping this - please review this if you’re flying in for the Summit. There’s lots of traffic and airspace to be aware of and avoid coming into TPF. It isn’t hard, we just need to plan accordingly. In the event of IFR weather be prepared to hold for sequencing into TPF. It will also be helpful to the folks behind you if you cancel IFR once reaching good solid VFR conditions on the approach. Fly safely! See you in Tampa! Cheers, Rick
  18. Yes they are! Teresa did a significant amount of work researching the tail numbers to find the color scheme of each airplane. This is indeed a very special and unique work of her quilting craft. Cheers and happy bidding, Rick
  19. Here's a very special and unique item up for bid in this year's Silent Auction, a handcrafted quilt created and donated by Teresa Covington. Our own @jcovington is her husband. Bidding is open to all, and you can register at: https://app.galabid.com/summit8auction/items
  20. No doubt! I take mine off, change the oil and do my inspections and mouse milking, and then invite some unsuspecting hangar neighbor over for a cold beverage. ”Hey, while you’re here would you mind…” I’m running out of unsuspecting neighbors. At least I have them do the screwdriver part of the job. Cheers, Rick
  21. AGL Aviation at Foothills Regional KMRN in Morganton NC was just bought by a Mooney-savvy A&P/IA. He passed muster with Lynn and Tamara Mase, the previous owners. I don't have a PIREP on the new ownership but I do trust Lynn and Tamara's judgement. AGL is still calling itself an MSC. www.aglaviation.com Cheers, Rick
  22. Umm... yup, my mistake. The $120 was for oxygen servicing. Currently $240 plus oil and filter, with Blackstone analysis thrown in. I use Philips X/C with Camguard and a Tempest filter so about $350 all in unless I do it myself. Sorry for the mis-cue, a mind is a terrible thing. To waste. Cheers, Rick
  23. They charged me $120 for an oil change on my Bravo. I’ll check with them tomorrow to see if that’s changed. I almost always change my own oil as well.
  24. Nope, local shop flat rate.
