buddy replied to sellis's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Mooney quoted me $27,900 for opinion 2 about a mouth ago under the original SB that's why I asked. So your saying the new SB is cheaper for opinion 2? -

So now what's the cost of option 2? -
I can recommend Islip Avionics they always did nice work on my 201 when I was based there. As far as tie downs check with the isp airport they had the tie downs on the west side and were a lot cheaper than the FBO's.

I spoke to the Mooney guy at the Mooney Summit yesterday and he said they were a little to fast in coming out with SB20 305A so they now have SB20 305B to fix a problem with the earlier SB. The SB for the coupled GPS approach won't be out until the 2nd quarter of 2017 for a price tag of about 8K. Not impressed since it still won't be compliant with the 2020 without spending more money to to change out the 330 transponder to the ES. -
I replaced the 3 separate connectors with a 3 in 1 connector. I believe the 3 wires are voltage in, voltage out and a ground.

Jeff, just as a note I spoke to the avionics shop on my field who is a Garman dealer and asked him why doesn't my G1000 lose power for a split second when I switch batteries and he said the G1000 has a capacitor that holds the voltage. I wonder if that might have been your problem "bad cap".
-
I had the same problem a few months ago. I switch batteries on every flight to keep them fully charged. I went to start the airplane and the prop turned about a half a blade, and my screens went blank on the G-1000's, switched batteries and the plane started fine. In flight I switched back to the dead battery and it showed the same charge as the good one so I thought it might be a bad battery solenoid. I ended up buying a new battery and that was the problem. Just a note I live in Fl. And it is amazing what heat does to a battery that I never had a problem with.

What is the difference between the Sreamin Eagle upgrade and the Standing O upgrade? Attached is what I have. Also I may try to get up there Friday just for the day.

Does anyone know how to reconfigure my MFD on my Ovation 2 to an Ovation 3 so that my tach will scale to 2700 rpm? My guess is that when the 310 hp STC was done in 2005 Mooney did not have the updated software that is in it now therefore the STC required a separate digital tach be installed.
-
I'm in Fl. And I've owned the m20r for about a year. I see your from ISP my old stomping grounds. I owned a 201 back then tied down on the west side and worked in airport management. Bin down here for about 8 yrs.

MSC???

Thanks guys for all the help, it ended up being a broken wire in one of the 3 wires coming off the hall sensor. Must have had enough voltage to run one tach and not the other (MFD). To answer your question I have a 2005 m20r and I believe the 310hp STC in 2005 you needed to install a digital tach my MFD tach only goes to 2600 rpm.
-
I have a problem with the tach on my mfd, it started giving me erroneous readings on my last flight and finally X'ed out. I also have the screaming eagle 310 hp upgrade therefore a digital tach was installed and the digital tach works fine. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that may show me how this is all connected, it may just be a bad connection.

I had a mag failure in my m20r and found that a lot of teeth were missing on the plastic gear, I had the mag shop replace the gear in the other mag also.

M20J won't start and my mechanic is stumped
buddy replied to pfactor's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
This sounds like an impulse coupling problem. I had the same problem for months only mine had the problem with a hot start in the beginning and later with a cold start. My mechanic sent the mags out to get cheched and the shop said they were fine. After several more months with this problem it became apparent that the only way the engine would start was when the battery was just about dead and was cracking very slowly. The problem was that the impulse coupling was hanging up when the engine was cranking over fast. A new impulse coupling solved the problem. Believe it or not this also happened with my friends 201 also and he had a new impulse coupling installed and it solved his problem. -
Try checking your fuel tank vents to make sure they are clear. This happened to me one time in my 201 at altitude on a really cold day my fuel vents froze up and the only way to get the fuel pressure back up was to turn on the boost pump. Once I got down to a lower altitude, below freezing the fuel pressure was normal without the boost pump on.

I have a 2005 m20R and my cigarette lighter is stepped down to 12v. I plug my I-pad in have no problems.
-
I switch my battery's in flight on each leg before I land so I don't forget and I have not had any problems. I have 2005 with G1000's.
-
Jeff what were your cylinder head temps. During the climb? At 120 my number 4 would be above 400. I may need to adjust my fuel flow, I'm only getting about 22 gph in a climb. I usually have to climb out at 130 when using 2400 rpm and full mp. To keep it below 400.

I have a 2005 M20R with G1000 STEC 55x with serial # 29-0342. My airplane was actually built in Dec. 2004 but since it came with the G1000 it is called a 2005. So there may be a few more M20R's with G1000's than you think. So am I to understand that Mooney had nothing to say at OSH. -

I have a 2005 M20R with the G1000 With an STEC 55X and I am also looking for a solution from Mooney. It almost sounds like they are not going going to do anything about it. Does Mooney ever read and respond to Mooeyspace? -
Any news from Mooney while at OSH on the WASS upgrade or ADSB software with the Garmin transponders.

After reading this I called my insurance broker D.R. Cox & Company (Jeff) and told him what I had read on Mooneyspace. I have a 2005 Ovation with G1000's and let him know that they give and oral warning, gear, gear, gear and stall, stall, stall not just a buzzer that goes off. Jeff recommended that I when I fill out my next insurance form in 2 months that I add that note on it as it will help in negotiating for a lower quote for my new insurance policy. Jeff also informed me that Mooney's were not the problem with gear up landings it has mostly been Bonanza's. I have used D. R. Cox (Jeff) for many years when insuring my M20J and now my M20R and I am very happy with his quotes. My friends have also used him and have been happy. In case your interested in calling for a quote on your next Aviation Ins. Policy his phone number is 865-588-2448.

I had a 1980 m20j and the clubs fit with know problem. Take the woods out, driver, 3wood, 7wood and with the handles first place them in the opening on the floor between the back seat where the toe bar fits, club heads angled uptowards the baggage door. Place the bag bottom first in angled from the back seat to the hat rack and close the door.
