Maybe a dumb question. Are the typical commercially purchased drones automatically disabled when flying in a TFR for drone activity?
-
I agree with the notion of buy it equipped if possible with the upgrades already done by reputable shops. I also agree with the notion of start with a basic plane and do all the upgrades and customizations yourself. The later is what I did but I really love the whole process and it does cost more. The enjoyment is worth the cost to me. Doing the later is also a cost of down time and non flying time. There is also down time in waiting for the already complete plane to come to market. There will always be squawks on the complete plane too.

Mooney Service Center Recommendations in South Carolina?
INA201 replied to TommyFlies's topic in General Mooney Talk
No question! Make the trip to Dalton. They are currently resurfacing their runway fyi. -
Looking for pre buy inspection shop near Dalton, GA.

I concur!! -
Good afternoon! I have a 78j that has a few nicks here and there on the paint. I used a paint shop to match up paint a few years ago for touch up My question is what you guys do to touch up your paint? Is there a standard white color or the other two colors that can be ordered off the shelf? I want to paint the gear and wheel rims as well. Any ideas techniques or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The plane is white, Maroon, and blue and original. I couldn’t get the picture to load so I’ll try later. Thanks

I agree! I do think things hit a social bottom a year or so ago but are now improving again.

Still chasing high #2 CHT in cruise
INA201 replied to TigerMooney's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I agree with PT20J. Start with the simple stuff like probes and baffling around the engine. The EGTs seem to indicate similar combustion and fuel flow as the other cylinders. What did savvy say?? Good luck to you. We have all been in similar situations. -
1978J Serial number 24-0578 calculated and not weighed. 990.80 lbs useful. I have a newer glass panel and no vacuum pump etc. we cleaned a lot of wires and old junk out a few years ago. I’m curious to how close folks calculations vs weighed are. 40 gallons of fuel with my wife and I leaves 450 lbs. 40 gallons of fuel is a solid 450 miles with 10 gallons left. Whoops! I’m preaching to the choir.

Pirep for Bevan Aviation - re KFC150 autopilot
INA201 replied to Will.iam's topic in General Mooney Talk
Great PIREP. I had really good luck with a century 2B being rebuilt by Bevan too. The GPSS with the 2b was a great first step into the 21st century(no pun intended with the use of Century). -
How many times has your door opened in flight?
INA201 replied to c1tice's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have had it pop open a few times early in my ownership experience. Usually when in turbulence or flying through clouds with obvious pressure differentials. I have not had it pop open since latching it swiftly and firmly in a smooth forward motion. What I was originally doing was a slower latching push on the lever and it must not have been engaging correctly. When the door was popping open the latch also was popping backward. This is not at all scientific but certainly solved the issue for me. -
I had similar issues. I bought Stabilant 22 and reestablished connections on everything even the servo in the wing. It is funky interesting stuff but worked for me. If anything it’s a good first step. Search Stabilant and you will find various posts on folks here who have used it.

Here is Garmin’s Grumman Tiger. I borrowed on their set up to do mine. I preferred the GFC500 control panel in the center beneath the 7” display. Overall the Tiger looks great.
-
Pretty sure it’s the original 1978 but I’m not 100%. It was in very bad shape when I first got the plane.

This is ours. Remote Bluetooth audio. I like the 750 with voice command too. A lot of ways to arrange these panels. I currently have no complaints with our decision.

Is a Power Flow System worth the $$
INA201 replied to David M20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I’d say go for it with most pre J models. One plus of Power Flow is they seem honest about their results with various aircraft. I had my old muffler rebuilt for an AMU or so instead of grabbing a Power Flow. -
Somehow I found myself on page three of this thread. I am automatically required to post now. I had both Wing X and ForeFlight years ago. Both competed very well and ForeFlight ultimately won imop. For me, I like IT products that continually innovate. In return I will use these services and invest my time to stay up to date(time is more valuable $$ currently). I would be much more frustrated if Garmin got bought out by Boeing. For now, I’ll reduce fuel flow for a couple of flights and call it even. Garmin needs to take notice! If Garmin can get their functionality up there with Forefilght, who knows.

A lot of folks donate money because they get a little something in return and a good feeling. Let’s say the offering was specifically to get ten new ultras off the production line with no expectation of seeing the money again. Once those roll off your donation/investment/endowment is specifically used for the physical costs of the next run of planes. The factory will need to make the labor, marketing, liability, and plant costs work. Separately, Let’s say the Mooney factory has $x debt as well as some other cost challenges that we are all unaware of. I might be willing to do a crowd funding donation to help. The problem is it needs to be all or nothing. Why donate/invest if the collective donation amount is not enough to get this thing rolling. How about a specific funding for say the gross weight increase STCs? When folks work as a team great things can happen. Just my multiple AMUs worth(minus two cents).

GFC500 is the best solution imop. This is an excellent panel and with the addition of the GFC500 it would be even better and the best overall solution. You can always go cheaper and many of us here do. It’s like the products you see that say “good,” “Better,” and “best.” The best simply cost more but the best is better. This is my opinion for what it’s worth.

Putting Aveo Ultra Galactica on the tips and Aveo Posistrobe Titania on the tail as we speak. Pirep sometime in the future. -
Mooney Prices Booming: Buy now or wait for the dip?
INA201 replied to awhedbee's topic in General Mooney Talk
1. Can you afford to maintain the plane you want? 2. Can you afford to purchase the plane you want? 3. Can you afford to fly the aircraft that you want after #1and #2? If the answer is yes to all three above questions then...... 4. Do you WANT to buy a plane right now in todays pricing and environment? If you have four yes votes then buy a plane and of course Mooney is the best choice. If there is a NO Vote in there then wait until everything lines up. Simple -
The difficult to land may be reality until you get it dialed in. Once you get it right it becomes a myth again. Pipers, Cessnas, and even a Bo is a joke to land comparatively nowadays but maybe that’s just me. Crosswinds are so easy to handle in the Mooney imop. Tailwinds not so much in the Mooney. Just my two cents.

Welcome to the Carolinas. AGL is always a top vote. Cole Aviation in Dalton Ga is a top vote around here as well. I’d say can’t go wrong with either based on experience and reputations around here.

I did the same thing five years ago! I wish we had Bluetooth now. -

Yes I have the jack and that will probably be the best option too!
