  1. Since there wasn't already a Cartoon topic, i started one (note tail)
  2. POSITION INFORMATION Inform an aircraft of its position whenever radar identification is established by means of identifying turns or by any of the beacon identification methods outlined in paragraph 5-3-3, Beacon/ADS-B Identification Methods. Position information need not be given when identification is established by position correlation or when a departing aircraft is identified within 1 mile of the takeoff runway end.
  3. its actually on my pre-start checklist, and it was latched. not sure what unlatched it, but it I moved it to pre-departure, since its a safety-of-flight issue
  4. If the gear extension cover isn't latched down, when you go to raise the gear, he CB will pop and the gear will not go up. My pre-departure checklist now has an extra step FWIW -- here's my flow rolling on to the runway 1, 2, 3, 4 -- elevator trim, wing flaps, rudder trim, cowl flap indicators all in the T/O position (top to bottom) 5, 6, 7, 8 -- Boost pump on, prop forward, mixture forward, squawk VFR (or not) (L to R) new: 4 1/2 -- emergency gear handle latched and closed
  5. Curiously yesterday, I got a code from BOS but he never radar identified me, so I asked "Boston, did you radar ID me and I missed it?" to which he replied "Mooney 2154x, is 15 north of montauk, 7 thousand five hundred"). exact same thing happened on the way back, but a different controller. what's up with BOSton??
  6. if you need SigmaTek gauges, I have a full set from my '98
  7. Flew to Nantucket 1h16m from KLDJ for a lobster roll. Taken on the way back, directly overhead JFK @6,500ft, looking SW over Jamaica Bay, the Rockaways, Hudson Bay, Sandy Hook, and NJ
  8. still working through all this
  9. I still have this problem in IAS and VNAV mode. I can also provoke porpoising in straight and level flight by giving the yoke a good push. I had the relevant parts lubricated and the bridle retensioned.
  10. there's really no reason to guess. its in the doc i posted above Section 3. Radar Identification APPLICATION Before you provide radar service, establish and maintain radar identification of the aircraft involved, 5-3-3 BEACON/ADS-B IDENTIFICATION METHODS When using only Mode 3/A radar beacon or ADS-B to identify a target, use one of the following methods: Request the pilot to activate the “IDENT” feature of the transponder/ADS-B and then observe the identification display. PHRASEOLOGY- IDENT. SQUAWK (code) AND IDENT. Request the pilot to change to a specific discrete or nondiscrete code, as appropriate, and then observe the target or code display change. If a code change is required in accordance with Section 2, Beacon/ADS-B Systems, of this chapter, use the codes specified therein. Request the pilot to change their transponder/ADS-B to “standby.” After you observe the target disappear for sufficient scans to assure that loss of target resulted from placing the transponder/ADS-B in “standby” position, request the pilot to return the transponder to normal operation and then observe the reappearance of the target. PHRASEOLOGY- SQUAWK STANDBY, then SQUAWK NORMAL. EN ROUTE. An aircraft may be considered identified when the full data block is automatically associated with the target symbol of an aircraft that is squawking a discrete code assigned by the computer.
  11. I'll see your tail dragger experience and raise you glider experience
  12. is there an explanation for this?
  13. Flew up to see Niagara Falls just because I could. Lovely flying day in the northeast!
  14. i'm wondering if its because the surveillance radar systems are now able to correlate ADS-B identifier with the squawk code. I know that on my traffic readout, I see the tail number or call sign of the aircraft. So I'm imagining that the data block now say Reg N2154X Ident 4215 or something like that, eliminating the need for ident in some TRACONs
  15. i bought that one today!
  16. I bought a "2160 lb. Capacity 1-3/4 in. x 15 ft. Tow Strap" for another $8. i don't have much slope, and only one short lip at the entrance to the hangar. will report back in a couple of weeks
  17. i ordered this today: https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-capacity-120v-ac-electric-winch-61672.html
  18. which winch did you buy?
  19. what winch did you get?
  20. yes, me too!
  21. check out the JO 7110.65W -- the ATC Bible -- chapter 5, section 3: "Section 3. Radar Identification" https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/atc_html/chap_5.html
  22. The only thing i do on the (remote) TXP is set the T in CRAFT and press the VFR button. yoke has an IDENT button and the squawk shows up on the 750 The only thing I do on the audio panel is press the MON button to monitor 2 if i'm talking on 1, and vice versa. the MIC and MON areas of the 750 show what you're talking on and what you're listening to I interact less then 5 times per flight with these two devices.
  23. GTN 750/650 both auto-identify the morse code for VOR/LOC and reverse looked up station associated with audio frequencies
  24. I have remoted both TXP and audio to my 750. Love love love it
