  1. in my M i only do full flap landings, regardless of xwind/gusts because i want to touch down as slow as possible. some people says full flaps is more difficult, but I prefer slow speed and less energy. I would do partial flaps with icing or (duh) flaps inop. i don't do a lot of low-ceiling IFR, but that might be another reason not to deploy full flaps because "stable approach". i believe the partial flaps landing in xwind/gusts comes from (high wing) airplanes whose flaps blanket the empennage and reduce rudder authority.
  2. sure, 100%. different runway/approach? sure, if you have time just load it in, or break off the approach, get a delay vector and reprogram. get a clearance to a different fix on the current approach? sure, its right there in the flight plan -- activate the leg or hit D. the issue with activating VTF is that it is not simply subjecting you to a possible 'late-in-the game change' -- activating VTF removes fixes from an approach that are in front of you (not behind you) on an approach that you are already in the middle of flying, and at the latest stage possible: heading towards final. do you really want to be at 2000 ft heading to intercept the final approach course, be given direct another fix that's no longer in your flight plan, and have to reprogram the approach? Thanks, i'll leave the approach in flight plan in. this is moot for me anyway, as I now have a GTN
  3. I got caught once off guard getting vectors from Tracon, selecting VTF, and then getting cleared for the approach via a fix, which had been ceremoniously deleted from the flight plan. yes, it was my fault for selecting vectors to final before the clearancE, but I vowed then and there never to again use vectors to final
  4. from the AIM: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap5_section_4.html Selection of “Vectors-to-Final” or “Vectors” option for an instrument approach may prevent approach fixes located outside of the FAF from being loaded into an RNAV system. Therefore, the selection of these options is discouraged due to increased workload for pilots to reprogram the navigation system. https://bruceair.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/avoiding-the-vectors-to-final-scramble/
  5. I'm bumping this topic with a photo of everything I have left because its all about to be wholesaled. electric and engine vacuum pumps avionics and indicators -- what do you need? KFC225, shadin, gma340 KI55 system, King txp, etc, flightcom gauges -- engine (bravo/ovation), MP, RPM 121.5 ELT
  6. And another M20 taking off from N40 — N218Rw
  7. I’ll start Sky Acres N40 in NJ around lunchtime spotted N123PG departing 25
  8. There doesn’t seem to be a topic dedicated to Mooney spotting. did you see a Mooney? Hear a Mooney on freq?
  9. thats 100 minutes of flying time
  10. what I really want is the sound made by a vario in a glider -- higher and faster beeps as lift increases, and slower and lower asa lift decreases. anyway, i don't have any problem glancing down at the panel and staying on AOA
  11. inspection plate read the install instructions. it has to be mounted in a certain spot

    FXE FBO

unfortunately, i didn't make it because of the 'caine. hope everyone is safe!
  13. yes "freshen" -- "make (something) newer, cleaner, or more attractive"
  14. my ship is 24 years old, and will probably need some work on the tanks in the next 5-10 years anyway. doing the tank upgrade could freshen them up before it needs it
  15. AOS is right next to the IAS tape on my G3X. so if you're looking at the airspeed, you'll also see the AOA
  16. My M29M G3x displays fuel pressure and didn’t need to retain the old gauge.
  17. Spending 5 nights in Fort Lauderdale. What's the best FBO at FXE? is there a better airport to land at?
  18. Installed my Harbor Freight winch, and it is working great! there's not much incline, so it doesn't put a huge amount of force on the tail. Also very slow, just a few feet a inute. Bought 100' of 16 gauge 4-wire "trailer wire" and made the wired remote 100' long, so i can get all the way to the front and steer the plane. The winch only has 35' of cable, so I had to put a cloth extension on, which was about $8. Once the winch rewinds all the way, I have to extend it and move it closer to the plane, and do a second pass. I put a plastic tub at the back of the hangar, and the remote and wiring go in the tub. Took a few hours over 3 trips to get it all sorted, but it works great.
  19. For anyone who missed out, I have a GMA 340 for sale https://flamingo-parakeet-cnj9.squarespace.com/shop/p/garmin-gma-340-audio-panel
  20. A lot of great flights over the last week, but one notable one was tuesday, when I did 2 laps in the pattern at PNE and then flew home I am night current for the first time in well over a decade.
  21. Wood's Hole and Falmouth MA, en route for lunch at Chester.
  22. (and if you want a step up, check here: ) )
