  1. Plus one on the airpath kit, I couldn't remove the screw to fill it. So I submerged everything in a small pan of fluid and assembled while submerged - no air bubbles that way, that's the key as carusaom pointed out Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Out of curiosity where did you get the material? I think I have the LASAR wiser visers? Anyway I am going to take mine to a local plastics/lexan shop in Stockton and see if they can duplicate them and how much. I will let you know how it turns out! Right now I'm still in project mode with my "new to me" Mooney… Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Any pics yet of before & after?
  4. I got mine last year from Herber aircraft. I shopped around and made price, & lead time comparisons, etc. I have the integral fire sleeve Teflon for oil & fuel. Because the the ends of the integral fire sleeve hose is bigger diameter, it did present some issue at the top of engine for oil cooler, but was able to overcome that. They can build whatever length you ask, and they can tell you what the stock lengths are supposed to be.
  5. Dave what was the outcome?
  6. You call Brittain? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Have you actually called Garmin and asked the question? Last time I talked to tech support, I expressed to them I heard they were not working 430's and he said yea he wasn't sure how that rumor got started…with that said, mid last year they were servicing non-wass units…I hope it didn't change Sherman
  8. Yes different carb, but the point is, the OH periods are neglected by many owners, maybe because they are not educated on the parts that help make up the whole. Manufacturers put out these intervals & Service bulletins for a reason, and so many owners think if its not an "AD" it does not apply to them....a discussion I'm not going to get into here. My carb had 1200 hrs on it, but to your question....the float is a potential issue as well as accelerator pump. I will attach the SB information & letters I have on the carb as well as a bulletin for the mechanical fuel pump, good info to have. You may already be aware or have all this info. lyc 366B Carburetor Throttle Body Screw Inspection.pdf Lyc SB582 Reprint of Precision Airmotive Mandatory Service Bulletin No. MSA-13.pdf Reprint of Precision Airmotive Mandatory Service Bulletin...Supplement 1.pdf SL_15-17.pdf SL_031_Volare_SB9s.pdf Lyc 548A Diaphragm-type Fuel Pump Inspection-Replacement.pdf Lycoming SB621 Fuel Pumps.pdf
  9. Carb supposed to be OH every 10 years. Look up the reason the NTSB reported the issue to be of Harrison Fords last plane crash. I just put an OH carb on mine, have not flown yet since other mods are still taking place, but anxious to see the difference. When I had the old & OH side by side, moving linkages, examine throttle plate, etc…wow big difference! Mine had not been OH in 18yrs…I have owned my Mooney less than 1 yr. Sherman
  10. Bonal, I'm trying to keep it somewhat centrally located. Since STS is 50+ miles north of the bay area it doesn't fit that criteria. I called Beeb's at LVK and they couldn't accommodate 25-40 people. I don't know how many people are coming - probably won't know until we get there - but we've got to plan for the maximum number of attendees. Dave Maybe I missed a previous post.…but…Hard to give suggestions without knowing where approximately the central location is? Also what is the proposed date? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Shad, ok last post since we are taking over the OP's original topic…all very good points you have raised. I was just trying to get the defeat switch and do it legally, but seems I cannot. I talked to Brittain and they flat out said no drawing for that 2nd defeat switch and it would not be legal to do so? Maybe the FAA cracked down on them during an audit? IDK? I believe the FAA thinks it is supposed to be on all the time & if an issue arises then you are supposed to push the button until landing…every FSDO is different, but he did say get the drawing from Brittain and no worries, but like I said that was a dead end. I tried to pull the button out of mine with no luck, I don't want to force it and risk damage, maybe there's a trick? Otherwise rubber band it is…Thanks for all the insight and feedback. 12. The system comes stock with a defeat switch actuated by the pilots left thumb. It is essentially a vacuum dump; the pilot can push the switch or remove the button. It was certificated that way. Yes I know about the button…Can you direct me to the document or verbiage either in the POH, or the PC operational manual supplement that states removing the button is an acceptable method to deactivate the system. When my FAA PMI & I discussed this, he asked for the info in writing, however I could not find it…if you have this info can you please share. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Brittain will send you a drawing to complete the switch on the panel defeat the system Yep I heard the same thing, and I asked Brittain directly…here is my question to them… "Also I would like to know is there a shut off valve which can be Teed inline with the PC cutoff switch on the yoke? I would like to be able to just say pull a knob that deactivates the system altogether while taxiing, takeoff, and landing phases, so I do not have to hold my thumb on the button continuously." And here is their reply… "The PC system is STC’d as a constant co-pilot. Therefore there is no legal manner in which to mount a master on/off valve." Soooooo…If anyone has a copy of this drawing I keep hearing about, please share. I would do the same… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Awesome! I wish I could come across a deal like that on a sewing machine for leather!
  15. Brittain sells the tubing and couplers to splice if necessary
  16. If the plane came from Mooney with the PC system installed the plane was FAA type certificated with this system as a "CONSTANT copilot, and deactivating it or installing a switch to turn it off and on when you want is considered deviating from the original type certificate. Only can an STC be completed to remove the system, or install a switch. Maybe you have an STC for the switch? I doubt your records and aircraft would ever be audited, but as aircraft owners we are responsible by abiding by the FAR's. My 65C has the PC system plus the B6 Auto Pilot with altitude hold which was installed by the factory and it is awesome, I will be connecting it to my Garmin 430 install (happening now) which will only provide it heading information but at least it will then hold a heading as well as altitude.
  17. Call Brittain, and talk to tech support, its free and they are knowledgeable. I talk to them every time I come across something on mine, easy system to work on
  18. I just did mine and its a tight space on a 65 C, you have the gasket between the engine and the accessory mount (what the governor is mounted to), and then you have the gasket between the mount and the governor, both of mine were leaking. The gasket between the mount and governor (2nd gasket going aft from engine block) actually has a built in screen to filter oil going into governor, and needs to face correct way when reinstalled (gasket was 22 bucks due to built in screen) If its either of these 2 gaskets, its worth trying to replace them since the governor is not failed, plus the inspection of the screen will reveal if its been clean or possibly crud trying to get in, mine was squeaky clean and its the original governor. I would also check to see if Quality Aircraft Accessories services or overhauls these governors (or might know who does) before I took the word of some prop shop about just scrapping it without even looking at it........
  19. George, good news....check out the FAA's recently released policy statement in regards to your question..... search on FAA website for PS-ACE-23-08 released mid September.
  20. Awesome trip! Glad it all went well....like others have said....very inspiring! so in all, what was the total flight time for the excellent adventure?
  21. Fully agree with you Doc! Per LASAR the mooney hinge is 106.65 each....or use MS20257 style hinge material from spruce for much less $$
  22. so you ordered 12 feet? Why so much? Wicks cheaper than spruce I guess? I looked at mine over the wknd and the pin diameter is much smaller than the hinge I.D. and thats causing the slop in mine.
  23. So just guessing here on the safety wire shim method......since mine is the same with ALOT of fore/aft movement, left side only, right side door tight.....I visualize taking maybe .020 or possibly .032 safety wire and trying to wrap it around the pin between two hinge points thus taking up the slack of fore/aft movement.....it would need to be done in several places i'm assuming so it will stand up against time, but think it will too begin to wear......hard to decribe, but I will look at it this weekend and post some shots if it seems to work.....Have to go up on jacks soon to check the gear.....
  24. Wow just the sticky mounts? I was afraid to let my son put his on with the suction cup he had for bought for his car in fear of it falling off! LOL! I was worried about the speed....The bolt on under the wing I could do for sure. I just never thought the regular sticky would stay.....Think I'll try the sticky pad then.....I'll say it again.....awesome trip!
