  1. I did and no luck. It was a gorgeous day.
  2. Someone is missing it because it was a nice camera!
  3. I snapped the picture from inside the restaurant just for giggles. I wish I had gotten the N-number.
  4. I you did, and you lost a camera, I left it with the hostess at the diner. It was laying on the ramp where you parked. You were in the plane on the left and departed about 11am.
  5. I had my oil changed in December and have flown about 25 hours since then. My M20E has an oil screen that is supposed to be cleaned every 50 hours. Here is my question, since I don't have a hangar to do the oil change in and my mechanic is booked solid, and it's 120 degrees on the ramp, would there be any harm in just pulling the cowling, daring the oil through the quick drain, and putting new oil in? I'd prefer to do a full oil change, but the airport gets cranky about mx on the ramp, plus pulling the oil screen has the potential to make a huge mess. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. 1970 M20E. I remember from the retract test during the last annual that we had to put pressure on the pitot system to be able to actuate the gear. I checked the CB when nothing happened and all was well.
  7. All of my plans were foiled by life and work to add a new rating before my 24 calendar months were up so I got with a friend that is a CFI and we went and flew. Everything was great, unusual attitude recovery, emergency procedures, landings, and other maneuvers. The only real excitement was when we were doing slow flight in a landing configuration with the gear down, comes time to recover, raise the gear, and nothing happens. So, I cycle the switch again, and nothing happens, third time the gear comes up and it behaves the rest of the flight. I was playing it cool as a cucumber but in my mind I'm running through the "what the heck is wrong" list. Well, long story short after a couple of adult beverages it hits me, "the airspeed gear limit switch!". So I pull out my trusty service manual and see that the switch should be set for around 75 mph before the gear are allowed to come up. Duh! I love flights when I learn something new about the plane. 8. I built an ice chest A/C. It does a pretty good job of cooling, but what i like the best is it keeps air moving around the cabin. I've also got a 2 1/2" flexible hose that I can hook to the a/c in my truck and blow cooler air into the cabin. I hate getting stupid hot before getting off the ground.
  9. When I got my prop balanced I had the same experience. I think I can tell a difference, but I'm not sure.
  10. Tie it down a fly it a lot. 40 minutes will get real old, real fast especially if there is traffic involved. Get a good covers, inlet plugs, and a corrosion treatment (Bruce's Custom Covers), and enjoy your plane. Get in the list for a hangar.
  11. Use the charts in your owners manual.
  12. "Flip that Mooney, or How to make a small fortune out of a large one!" - good show titles.
  13. Nice, subtle way to show off your other toys....
  14. I should have gone..... :-( I had an opportunity to go with the B25 I volunteer with.
  15. Damn it! When will pilots quite taking off without enough fuel to complete their flight?
  16. I was doing the same thing you are doing. Carrying to much speed into the flare because I was uncomfortable getting slow. I went out one day and climbed up to 3500agl and practiced slow flight in the landing configuration. It is amazing how slow they will fly. Might be worth an hour or so of time.
  17. Got this today.
  18. Leak classification from a M20E service manual.
  19. When you clean it up, how long does it take to come back?
  20. My last flight was on the CAF B25 "Devil Dog" out of GTU. I was just a lowly crew member, but we flew up to Camden, AR for a flyover for a funeral. The gentleman was a co-pilot on the Doolittle raid.
  21. I had a good conversation with my A&P yesterday. He had good things to say about JPI and Insight monitors. Now to start doing the research to see which one to get. I'm not afraid to spend money if there is value added. As Piloto said about older Mooneys, all of my engine gauges are on the far side of the passenger panel and kind of a pain to read. I'm thinking a JPI 830 would fit nicely just to the right of the yoke.
  22. So today I was flying and the cylinder head temperature barley got off the peg. Air temp was I the 70's. This is my cowl opening (yes the plugs were gone...). Is this ok? Usually the temp is a little bit more, and cowl flaps were closed. Thanks!
  23. On the website they say that price has not been set yet, will happen after certification which they think will happen this summer. You can link it some how to the stratus 2 so it will then talk to the iPad and provide attitude information.
  24. I'd look at either a Cessna 310 or Piper Twin Comanche.
