  1. My ignition does not require a push to engage the starter it operates like an automotive switch. When I was having start issues (mag related) we disconnected the starter and confirmed the SOS was working properly but it only comes on during the starter operation and you can't hear it while the motor is turning over. By disconnecting the starter you can easily hear the fire works.
  2. This is what is so wonderful about what we do with our freedom to fly. No matter how many hours and what type aircraft you choose to fly the horizon will always offer new and exciting adventures. Yesterday on a routine shopping trip over the hill I made one of the best landings I have ever made. Sometimes it's the little things that bring the most joy. Congrats on your 1000 hours but in looking at your map you have missed out on some great flying west of the Rocky Mountains. Hope your next 1000 brings you out our way.
  3. What was your TAS during the comparison on each power setting?
  4. My wife and I flew down the San Luis last week for our ECI inspection while Eric worked on the plane we wandered over to the restaurant for lunch and did have to be let back into the ramp area and I had to show them my PPL. We spent a bit of time looking around and were never approached by any one about what we were doing. I think its a good idea to have reasonable security and as long as you make arrangement you should be able to gain access. A few years back we flew to Santa Rosa for an AOPA seminar that was hosted by the jet center there. We made no reservations and were parked right near the hangar and enjoyed the gathering. A pilot friend drove down for the same event and since they had not made reservations were not permitted in even though he presented his PPL. My home field has zero security and occasionally we do get some break ins so I would not mind some security there. I think the big difference is if you fly in you belong in and I like that.
  5. Hi Alex I like the first better the second looks more racy but will look more dated with time the first has a very nice line and is classy and timeless.
  6. Another example why to fly as high as you can how far away was the field when the engine quit. And again my compliments on getting down safely.
  7. Could you post a pic of how it is now. My question is full strip and paint if not I would stick to the same otherwise they never look right IMHO. As an artist type I cant imagine how exciting it would be to have a blank canvas such as it were.
  8. Well done sir!
  9. I'm in good shape righ now but great to see there is a way to restore when the time comes
  10. Relax Tony I'm aware that the U.S. has lost some of the Aircraft Manufacturing to other countries perhaps even South Africa. And that China has invested in the purchase of some of our aircraft industry something that many of us here in the states are not at all happy about. I realise we live in a global economy now due in part to a bunch of people that want to save the planet making manufacturing here in the states almost impossible. For example something near to my heart. We had an earthquake hit the SF bay area years back and one of the bridges was damaged so Caltrans decided to replace the entire east span of the bridge. Most of the steel used in the new bridge had to be made in China (god knows what the behind the seen was on that) it took over 20 years to complete at a cost of over 15 billion dollars (the original bridge took only 4 years for both east and west spans) and was constructed at the same time as the Golden Gate bridge. Now the new span of the Bay Bridge is already having problems that are costing millions to correct. So if China and others are expanding their GA and if any of that causes an increase in U.S. exports I am happy about it.
  11. Those of us that are triple digits most likely walked to school in the snow those in double digits likely rode in an SUV. Unless of course they have a Acclaim or an Ovation.
  12. The plastic used for aircraft windows is very soft where as automotive lamp covers is much harder I think most auto products would likely cause more damage than good. There are some aircraft (glass) products that might work check out Sportys and spruce.
  13. Look at it this way if they buy lots of Mooney's Cessna Beeches and pipers some of that money will be coming back home and landing (pun intended) right where most of us would really want American aviation jobs. Aircraft manufacturing is one of the few remaining areas where our exports exceed our imports. Even Honda was smart enough to know the best place to develope and build there first ever jet is right here. We may not make the best cars but by god we make the best airplanes.
  14. 105 for me 100 for my wife. if Jonny had to walk seven miles in the snow to school each day how old will he be when he buys his first airplane?
  15. No thank you ! ! !
  16. This I know, I was referring to using an Oddyssey in a certified did not think that was legal.
  17. Is it legal for certified?
  18. 2 airplanes and right out of high school not bad. When I was trying to sell my Cessna I was approached to lease it to a flying school. Looking into the logistics it seemed more trouble than it was worth.. Just kidding about the HS joke but you look so young.
  19. I would not trust my engine to a 10 dollar torque wrench and you should use the proper socket to protect the threads. Just put in a set of tempest massive and it seems to make better power in climb and I was having fouling issues that have since stopped. As for torque I used 30 not 35ft lbs. I will be looking into that. What ever wrench you use be sure to unwind it after use.
  20. That's good to know should be a snap this time round.
  21. I have run the numbers and I get almost the exact miles per gallon with my 20c as I did with my cessna 150 based on fuel burn for time in the air. Now we just plan longer trips. I like our 140 to 145 knot speed and I also know this is as fast as I can afford to go. Truth be told my goal will be to afford 200 knots in fact if I could afford it 250 would be grand. The original post is confusing to me mpg vs gallons per hour or do you just want to go slow?
  22. Used it 2 years ago and will be doing so next month. You select you're examiner and after you complete the form it gets logged and when you go for your exam they pull it right from the data base and it's all completed in advance. Worked ok but I think it's more about tracking our actions and history. Just sayin.
  23. Lake county CA is having its annual splash in for sea planes on the weekend of the 27th this month. There will be land transportation available the lake is about 5 minutes from the airport. LASAR is also hosting a BBQ on the 27th at 1o2 you need to contact them to make a reservation. The splash in usually get around 20 aircraft some very nice vintage birds but sadly these numbers are dwindling as fewer people are flying these days. There is a web site you can check out for previous event years. Hope to see some of you visit our area.
  24. Zeftronics, yes. No problems at all since using the correct battery. Tried to get clever to avoid having to remove all 3 cowlings but that was before I got into a hangar and have power and needed to remove the battery to keep it on a tender during winter. The smaller 25 series can be installed with just a left cowl removal but it don't have the strength needed for the 360.
  25. I have a Skytech starter but also have a generator that needs at least 1500rpm to start making good voltage it works fine but when it fails I will convert to an alternator. My Concord 35 is working fine hot or cold I get fast starts every time. Battery tech has advanced in many applications other than aviation. Look at the numbers on automotive batteries compared to aircraft. Over twice the power for less than half the price. They are heavy but I think that could be addressed if the manufacturers wanted to do so. And again that brings us to the certified vs experimental debate.
