  1. Carusoam, it's nice to know my opinions can generate a response people seldom comment on dribble and I always look forward to reading your posts as they are usually well put. That being said what I spelled out was nothing more than my opinion and I have not changed it since reading your response. as for my list, while airplane values do better than most cars and trucks there are plenty of posts about the falling prices on airplanes I know a lot of people that lost every thing when they refinanced homes adding new toys and then having the bottom fall out on the home which they were then unable to refinance as there ARM's came due. When it comes to money I am a very conservative but that is just me I know I will never be rich but I also know I will never be poor. I am in no way trying to disway the original poster and I feel I have made only comments of encouragement to be patient and stay the course. My best regards
  2. Just my opinion and this is coming from someone that does not think financing an airplane is a good idea I also recognize that there are things in life we cannot afford outright which is why there is such a thing as loans. Some options do exist for GA loans and they have been mentioned here. As for a refinance on a home loan I saw so many people do this to buy all kinds of things and then they are paying for a car or truck or boat for 20 or 30 years seems kind of dumb to me. Be patient I had to wait 50 years before I could swing it. As long as you keep your eye on the goal you will succeed
  3. You guys obviously have never heard of the Sierras we don't need thunderstorms to make ice tallest mountain in the North American continent other than McKinley is in CA. And Owens valley is one of the nastiest places you can fly.
  4. Sadly We can't control the things that are found during inspections so we pay what we have to pay to keep our airplanes safe. As for the cheap B&$/&ard award you guys aren't even in my league. Cracks me up watching every one floundering around with their examples of cheapness.
  5. Yea we are getting some much needed rain but it keeps me on the ground just started a long vacation I hope to get some good trips in over the holiday season. It's so cool and the air is 100% saturated so it makes waxing kind of tough cause the wax don't dry going to do some work on my interior as indicated on another post I'm still indoors and out of the rain
  6. A lot of it has to do with your mech skills and how much they are willing to let you do. I asked how much I was saving and was told about 500 a day. I know that from the time I show up right when they open I am working steady for the whole day a lot of labor kind of things but it's all stuff that has to be done.
  7. OK that answers my question I am now giving the thread back, that's a real nice J you have there
  8. Jeez I hope my next will come in under 3K my first 2 were brutal and I do owner assist but the first 2 needed some big ticket items replaced. Hopefully next will have nothing more than normal service items.
  9. Real sorry to read about your set back, I don't know what your space requirements are and what your financial issues might be but for my budget a C is a great airplane. I think I would be able to get financing on a J but truth be told I would never want to go into debt for an airplane (the damn things have a way of making there own debt) as for equally priced Pipers and Cessnas my C will fly circles around them I get an honest 145 plus knots TAS at close to gross. Don't give up on your dream sir.
  10. I'm going to steal this thread for a minute with a question about J performance. Looking at performance specs for different models I see the F and J both have the 200hp and weigh the same and I thought have the same fuselage so why is the J faster or is it. My source is Pilot friend. Is it the cowling?
  11. Hardly ever drive it but when I do it's really fun short wheel base rear wheel drive limited slip differential. New cars may be faster but they are so sanitary heck my WRX is faster but no way near as fun. Thing is when the weather is nice I'm flying. Can't bring myself to sell it.
  12. I got an 87 Mustang GT that I bought new that year in my garage that is in show room condition. Didn't start my PPL till I hit 50 you are way ahead of the game. Congrats. Seems like only yesterday that I brought that car home.
  13. Hope to some day when time and finances permit. Need to do some work to get my panel IFR certified as well. Keep the thoughts coming everyone I like to hear how others deal with non flying time.
  14. YAHOO! Went to the drone and wiped down the plane kept watching the sky and low and behold the clouds parted and gave me just enough room to get her out and do some maneuvers spent about half an hour but the next storm started closing in so made nice approach and landing but definitely had some rust to shake off (me not the plane) felt so good to be up again.
  15. That would not be such a good idea for a VFR only pilot such as myself.
  16. Low clouds and rain still keeping me on the ground. Haven't flown in 3 weeks and going out of my mind. We're supposed to be in a drought here in CA. Going to do some tinkering with the plane but that just makes it worse. How do you deal with not being able to fly?
  17. Mooney is a much better choice. Never have to worry about getting a ticket at 150 plus knots and once you get it and take care of all the squaks there are plenty of Porsches for sale. Besides how much fun can you have stuck on I 80 unless your planning on going to Thunder hill for some track days.
  18. Actually we pulled the Cessna out to try some different angles and its a lot easier to move than my mooney. But it's back in the back with my mooney out front where it belongs.
  19. So I met with the 2 other players and looks like I will be staying inside for a while longer the Cessna (it's a 175) is not moving for a month or 2 then its out for another location. The Tiger will be replacing it in a few months and we will have to figure that out when it does. Now if I can just get these clouds to lift so I can get back in the air. Thanks for your comments and thoughts I know this is not a permanent situation but looks good for now.
  20. Weather still sucks and I'm stuck on the ground. But at least for the time being my Mooney is nice and dry hope I can keep it that way.
  21. Hoping for a break in the weather today been 3 weeks since I turned a blade and reading all the comments here and on other threads has been very helpful in keeping me mindful about all things as I plan to take the runway. What impresses me the most are those of you that have so much experience in both hours and different types that still have so much respect for the challenges and requirements that flying demands that you take nothing for granted. Some times when the discussion is about accidents and such it does put a dark cloud on the whole thing that is flying and I know it's a valuable resource because if and when something does go wrong it might be someone's post that helps me find a safe way down. I look forward to all the comments and opinions you all share and hope that I can someday be able to provide some useful bit of information as well. Keep it coming and thank you Mooney Space.
  22. Check and see Thanks Hank
  23. Very dangerous! Question about posting. How do you take someone's post and attach it to a new reply?
  24. The mag that is tasked with starting has a separate set of points that are set at zero degrees or top dead center. Some times when the prop is turning through and you release the ignition to the both on your ignition switch the engine will fire. As long as you hold the starter on and the one mag is NG the engine will not start. I believe there were some other threads on this condition and I'm not sure if your J has the same system but I always look for spark as my first trouble shoot as long as the engine is cranking then fuel then compression. Of course if I'm not mistaken you can at least verify your getting compression simply by pulling the prop through all 4 cylinders. Good luck at least the weather is too crappy to fly this week.
