  1. A J model Mooney does not need any STCs. Monroy? I have 7 hours range in my stock J. How far are you going? Bladders? Less useful load, less fuel capacity. They are not cheap or maintenance free either. Just get a good one equipped pretty much like you want it and take good care of it and you will love it. I still do after 22 years and 2,300 hours.
  2. Ron Fisher has a J that he is parting out at Kestrel Airpark 1t7. I believe it belongs to Jimmy Garrison. Last I saw it it had elevators.
  3. Hi Skip, That's not the one I was referring to. As I recall, there is an angle or something installed inside the lower boot cowl. It has a nutplate. A new machine screw goes through the lower cowl to anchor the cowl to the boot cowl. Mine was installed by Dugosh many years ago. I will see if I can find the log entry.
  4. Lasar makes a kit for that. Works well
  5. Saw this at Sun Valley Aviation in Harlingen, tex. this morning. Not sure which model. P&W R985?
  6. I bought my 81 J model Mooney in New Mexico in 1998. It had been inactive for several years and the logs could not be found. A couple of days ago (22 years and 2,400 hours later) I received a call from a gentleman from a small town in NM. He said that his father had operated a one man aircraft repair shop for many years prior to his death about 5 years ago. While cleaning out the contents of his father's hangar recently he found my logs which he kindly agreed to send me. He refused any compensation--even the cost if sending the logs. We had a nice visit and he seemed like a really nice guy. He is getting a huge Honey Baked ham which I hope his family will enjoy. Like the title says, aviation people are the best.
  7. My swiss watch (KI256) is working great and is very dependable
  8. It came with the step off another J model factory original im pretty sure.
  9. Sorry, I didn't get involved in installing it. My mechanic did say that whatever the step attaches to was there already. Maybe 2-3 hours labor if I recall correctly.
  10. My 81 J model came without a step. I recently added one and it makes loading and unloading much easier. I can't tell any difference in cruise speed.
  11. They were done by American Eagle in Spring Branch, Texas. It's a mom an pop operation and they are very accomodating. You will be pleasantly surprised at the cost.
  12. I don't know what they are made of but blasting the old stuff off and powder coating seems to work fine. Smooth finish. Should be pretty durable from what i've heard of powder coating.
  13. During my annual just completed I had the control yokes on my 81 J model powder coated. Before and after photos are attached. I was pleased with the results.
  14. Why would you want a baffle to cut cooling airflow from a cyl. that is running hot?
  15. Here's your answer. The no. 1 clyinder on our Js have a baffle in front of them that blocks a good part of the airflow. Trim about 3/4 inch off it and your no. 1 will go from hottest cyl. to coolest. My mechanic made a new one for me in about 10 minutes. There is a thread on here from several years ago that covers this. Good luck!
  16. Guilty as charged on the Bud Lite. Gonzo Gonzales, the cook at hunting camp, called it "romance beer". ___________ near water. Pretty good on the boat on a hot day though. Good observation on the wine--2 red one white. I wont say the brand cause I know It wouldnt meet approval from their group. I dont pay over $10 a bottle. Hope all of you and your families are staying well.
  17. Who says a Mooney wont haul very much. This all fit in the baggage compartment. My wife had the whole back seat to herself. Landings are nice loaded like this with half flaps. We traveled from our home in San Antonio to our vacation place at the coast and never got within fifty feet of another person.
  18. If you have a Druck I don't believe a Mitchell will work. There is a thread here on Mooneyspace from 2017 about this. The guy was trying to sell used ones for $500.  Good luck

  19. Same as mine. Glad it worked out for you.
  20. Check the wires that connect to the transducer. My needle was pegged on the high side. I ordered a new one from Lasar but when I started installing it I found that one of the tiny wires was broken. If you do need a transducer I will sell you mine for what I paid for it. Brand new, never installed.
  21. I would call Paul Beck at Weep No More. At one time he was licensing his sealant removal process. One was to the Mooney factory shop and I believe there was another one in Europe. If there is a good shop in Europe Paul would know.
  22. Very well done and informative. Thanks
  23. I don't think the pitot systen is part of the IFR check. My shop told me I had a pitot leak but passed it anyway. Next time I had them fix it. it was a leak at the drain valve--100 kts per minute as I recall. I couldn't see any difference in indicated airspeed in cruise afterward.
  24. I replaced the headliner on my J model with new panels from Plane Plastics. The material is thicker and stronger than original. I don't recall it being too expensive and my upholstery guy installed it.
  25. My paint is original from 1981 and it isnt hurt that I can tell. Just wipe on and wipe off.
