Jamie Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 The FAA N number database still shows the previous owner almost 4 months after I supposedly bought my plane. How long does it normally take for it to catch up? Quote
1964-M20E Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Sometime a while but your home state seems to be able to find out about a trasnfer faster thant that to collect the taxes. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Typically it happens the day after you stop looking for it... Seems like forever. As John mentioned the taxman waits for no one... From the tax man never forgets file, On the other hand... The state from which the airplane was sold will also send a tax bill to the new owner. His name and your name at your address. Thank you New Mexico. I have had a confusing year, three years after purchase... Best regards, -a- Quote
Jamie Posted May 28, 2013 Author Report Posted May 28, 2013 *sigh* ok. Thanks. I was "proactive" on the taxes... I called them. So my state is happy, I think. It would be nice to have some confirmation I actually own the thing, though, especially in light of the recent TSA ramp check stuff. If they check the Current FAA N Number Database, I don't own it. carusoam Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Jamie, That is the logic that I was following. Since ownership paperwork is difficult to independently verify, it is nice when the FAA finally updates their database and everything appears properly. Picture the state of NM sending you a tax bill next... Best regards, -a- Quote
Alan Fox Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Remember if it is purchased from the same state that it is registered in there is no sales tax.... Quote
John Pleisse Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 Mine went through and appeared on the database in about three months. My tax bill arrived in under two weeks. It was my bank who snitched on me so quickly. Government. Getting little done, expensively. Quote
DrBill Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 if you have a 406 mhz elt be sure to notify them of your ownership change. call the 800 number they will have to contact the previous owner on record to verify the plane has been sold Bill Quote
