nbinont Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I'd like to add the Accuflite component to my Brittain Autopilot, and need the DG Adaptor (P/N 280-003-500 Model BI-818). If you're trying to sell one or know someone is ... please send me a message. Thanks!
banjo Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Hi mate, l have a Britain auto what do you mean by accuflie component? Maybe l could do it on mine Thanks mike
nbinont Posted April 17, 2013 Author Report Posted April 17, 2013 Hi Mike! See: http://www.brittainautopilots.com/PRODUCTS.htm The Brittain Autopilot that came standard on Mooneys consists of a baisc stability system (BSS). There's add on components to allow the autopilot to do more: ->The B11 Accutrack adds the capability to track a nav instrument (ndb/vor/...). ->The B12 Accuflite adds the capability to fly a heading. They are no longer manufactured, so they are only available used.
Hank Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 They're both pretty good! I love the AccuFlite, flew with it most of the time the first two or three years of Mooneyhood. The AccuTrack does a nice Instrument Approach plan view, and if I work the altitude part then I can land. My CFII wouldn't let me use either one in training . . . Brittain has excellent service, amazing pricing, and they may be able to help source the parts you need. 1
N601RX Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I have the Accuflite, Accutrack and altitude hold. They work great, and fit my budget when the other options did not. They are also inexpensive to keep working. 1
scottfromiowa Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I just bought one along with required DG on EBay. I contacted Brittain and purchased on/off switch and pre-configured wiring cables/STC and install directions. All components ran about $1200, but needed a new DG anyway and old core sell off will get cost less install down to a grand...good luck in your search, Scott
nbinont Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 Ah! So you're the lucky guy that caught that ebay listing! Hope it works well for you. I'm in a similar situation - my DG is slowly going, and I figgured that now's the time to consider an upgrade. The people at Brittain are very helpful.
scottfromiowa Posted April 19, 2013 Report Posted April 19, 2013 Yup. Me too. Brittain and rebuild of DG are there if necessary. Hoping to get a few years before re-build. Accu-flite just inspected in 2011 so should be fine. Wish seller had not cut cables...oh well.
Hector Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Can a DG with a heading bug and AP output be coupled to an Accutrack without an Accuflite?
nbinont Posted April 22, 2013 Author Report Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Nope. The Accutrak only couples to nav instruments. You need the Accuflite to couple to a DG. Edited April 22, 2013 by nbinont
Hector Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Thanks. I guess I'll be looking on eBay for one. After getting vectored all over the place this afternoon in solid IMC I was thinking it would be really nice to have my DG coupled with the Accutrack.
cathead Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 I flew my cherokee out to Brittain this time last year and he installed the accuflite and accutrack in it. I had nothing to begin with, not even any parts. Took him 3 weeks to do, but has been the best thing I have ever done. I was originally told it would be a year wait, but I called atleast once a month and finally he said come on. Ended up only waiting about 2 months. I find I use the accuflite, heading bug, way more than the accutrack. I think it's one of the best autopilots going. It has vacuum and electric running it. The whole system was installed for less then the stec 20 system would have costed just to purchase the system. 1
nbinont Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 Got one. Install went smooth, and oh, is it nice to set the heading bug and have the autopilot follow it!
Skypylott Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 I got my AccuFlite and Accutrak systems from Brittian Industries about a year ago. Call Jerry Walters at Brittain Industries and he will help you out. N6327Q Posted September 29, 2013 Report Posted September 29, 2013 Does anyone know if any DG with a heading bug will work for AccuFlite? I just got an Accutrac and before I get it installed I figure I will get the AccuFlight system purchased and installed at the same time!
nbinont Posted September 29, 2013 Author Report Posted September 29, 2013 You probably need a Model G502A DG for the accuflite system. (made by Edo Aire, Sigma Tek or RC Allen). Any long part number 1U262-005-xx should be compatible (such as 1U262-005-20). The folks at Brittain Industries are very helpful and can confirm the needed parts compatible with your system.
