butchgilbert Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 I'm flying much more IFR these days and would like a second 430W Nav data card to swap databases on the monthly cycles. I know that Jeppesen sells them for around $200 each, but if someone has one (or two, a friend of mine may be interested as well), please let me know. Thanks Butch Gilbert Tampa, FL
DrBill Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Butch. I bought a 2nd card when I bought the airplane and USB adapter. It is GREAT. I keep it in the adapter and when a new update is available, I can load it on the spare card. Put it in my pocket (both adapter and card) when I go to the airport, the bulky thing reminds me to swap them out. A quick update to my Avionics Data log, boot up and verify the date and I'm good to go. $200 is a rip for a flash card but t is a Garmin unique package. Bill

As of 1/28, there's no longer a requirement to log database updates--just install and go.
carusoam Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Dan, Where did you see that? That's the first I have heard it. I would think that would have made a bigger splash. Then again, memory is the second thing??? Nevermind, -a-
danb35 Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 I think most pilots never accepted that the updates needed to be logged in the first place. I posted here about it back in December: http://mooneyspace.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=21810. The rule requiring logging was stupid, and it seems that even the FAA wasn't completely consistent in its interpretation. However, they've actually improved it now.
