Quick question for you. I was quoted 40 hours to install a GMA 340 and 16 hours to install a GNS 430. Does that sound about right? If it is what makes the GMA 340 such a costly and time consuming installation?

I recently had a Garmin GMA-350 and SL-30 installed. The labor was 45 hours. I think the audio panel is the most expensive because it has to be wired to all the other radios and all the headset jacks. Mine required all new wiring harneses to all the radios, jacks and speaker.

Good question,

can you use existing wiring from a previous existing panel? Or do you need to install all new?

Is the shop familiar with your current radios? Or do they need to research all the connections?

Running wires to all the seats is time consuming.

A completely new harness may be a good idea.

Talk to your installer to see what your choices are. I would seriously consider leaving most of it in place in my plane. That probably means that the back seaters might not get stereo in their headsets...

Sorry for thread theft, but I was wondering about direct replacement for Bendix-King KMA-24. I have this with a PS-3000 Stereo Intercom. When I look at PS-Engineering site it appears that all there "drop-in" replacements HAVE an Intercom...Any replacment with just an audio panel so I can continue to use the PS-3000? KMA-24 works fine...just thinking about updating so I can have phone interface and cosmetics...Anyone done the swap as I describe? Was it a drop-in replacement?

If you don't want to mess with re-wiring, you might want to consider the PS-Engineering 7000B. It's a nice audio panel and is pin compatible with the KMA-24.

The 8000B is their flagship audio panel. It's plug compatible with the 340 and is stereo. Also has a few more bells and whistles... longer warranty.

The 8000B is a better unit than the 340. The 8000B has a lot more features. The 8000B is more like the Garmin GMA-350. The biggest difference between the 8000B and the GMA-350 is the 350 has 3D audio and longer playback record time.

I am concidering installing a mono PS engineering 6000MB it's mono but that would avoid changing all the wiring.

The 6000 has just one 40 pin plug at the back...this means you need to to re-wire the existing cables and that's it...

My personal opinion is that an aircraft is anyway a very bad place to listen to stereo music....

I currently have a KMA 20 + telex intercom...works still OK for the moment
