Bennett Posted March 11, 2013 Author Report Posted March 11, 2013 Jim, I first used a black plastic "report cover" as a template and as a possible final piece. It was good to work with cheap material as I could make several variations without the considering cost. The light plastic allowed me to cut the material with heavy duty scissors. At the same time the plastic was stiff enough to hold the corner bends with some low tack double stick tape. Once I found the shape I wanted, and the depth of the anti glare sun shield, and the control cut-outs, I unfolded the light plastic -it proved too flexible for real use, and made precise measurements. I then went to a local plastic shop and chose a heavier plastic that had "texture" on one side. Since they had better tools for working plastic better than I do, I had them fabricate the final version glare shield. It fit reasonably well, but it was a bit too thick to allow easy access to the various controls. In the end, I decided that the glare shield was more cumbersome than valuable, and I removed it. An alternative for iPhones and iPads is one of the glare shield sheets sold by Apple and others. I tried one on iPad Mini, but I didn't like the loss of clarity and perceived resolution. Quote

fantom Posted March 11, 2013 Report Posted March 11, 2013 With the outstanding panel you've constructed Bennett, it seems a shame to have anything suction cupped, and slightly restricting forward visibility. How many redundancies do we really need and when do they become counter productive data overload??? Just thinking out loud. I am most impressed with your creativity! Quote
Bennett Posted March 11, 2013 Author Report Posted March 11, 2013 I don't need more redundancies, but I really like Dynon. As previously mentioned, I had an LSA with Dynon instrumentation ( custom panel) and I found them a great company to work with. The D-1 was so reasonably priced compared with Trilogy, that I bought it to play with. I may not keep it, but for now I am just watching it's stability and concurrence with my AIs. If I had an empty hole, I would mount it there. I don't much like the windscreen mount, but it keeps the unit portable, and doesn't really block my vision as I have my seat cranked up as high as possible. The photo below is how I set up my LSA panel. The owner of the ATSM "type certificate" was local, and so they approved all my changes as "options". Way better than STCs and 337 forms. Quote
