flyingscot Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Greetings - If an Ovation has the 310 STC, upon engine overhaul/replacement the IO-550-G can be switched to an IO-550-N. This I know. But when overhauling an engine is there any reason one could not source from RAM? They list Cessna/Cirrus/Beechcraft.... etc. but not Mooney. They produce a IO-550-N for SR22's among others. But this installation appears to require an STC. If so, why? I assume it is because they use enhanced/their components. They also produce engines to stock specs, which I assume does not require an STC. They don't appear to have an STC for Mooney. In the absence of this can the requisite approvals be done as a field approval with the FSDO? Anyone have experience with this? Cheers - Bob
Fritz1 Posted January 26 Report Posted January 26 call RAM, if they don't know, call Brian Kendrick in San Marcos TX, he usually knows more than other people 1
