Medflyer Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 My F Model Mooney developed a crack on the left side of the windscreen to which my local mechanic stop drilled. I inquired about replacing the windscreen and it looks like a fairing right in front of the windscreen has to be removed. The plane has a great paint job but the paint on the fairing has to be destroyed to get to the rivets to be able to remove the windscreen. Does anyone have a lead on a shop that can take care of replacing the windscreen and repainting the fairing as well? I live in the Nashville area and a shop in the Atlanta area would work as well. As a side note, all of my windows have a small crack or two so might as well get them all replaced at the same time. Thank you in advance for the responses. Bill Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 When I replaced the windscreen on my M20F, my step father helped. He was the most skilled person I ever met with hand tool work, and power tools too BTW. It took him a while, but he removed that strip without damaging it. But he was a unicorn (RIP). Quote

Sorry to hear about the loss of you stepfather, men like him are a very rare breed indeed! The paint shop that did the job back in 2018 did a fantastic job of smoothing and painting over the rivets. I don't think there is another way around removing that fairing without messing up the paint Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 Not after they Bondoed the whole thing. That is going to be quite a job to get off. Quote
WilliamR Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 Don Smith at Cartersville, GA Airport (KVPC) did a good job for material paint "touch up" work on my plane. I had a good amount of paint touch up (among other things) needed after Maxwell got a hold of my plane and Smith did a very good job. I can't tell where they blended the old and new paint. Phoenix Air at VPC can also do the maintenance. I had them fix the many discrepancies I had after that Maxwell annual. Phoenix Air coordinated directly with Smith. Don Smith is the closest to Atlanta that I could think of that is willing to do smaller paint jobs that also has a decent maintenance shop on field. PDK and FTY are the only airports in Atlanta and the maintenance shops there I don't think do great material paint work (more than filling in a chip here and there). I might be more particular about these things than the average; or so say my friends. William Quote
Fritz1 Posted January 31 Report Posted January 31 looks like an awesome paint job, Hawk aircraft in Florida does a fair amount of Mooney work and did the Eagle of a friend of mine with good results, he typically replaces windows with a paint job, in order to have a flawless match you may have to paint the non-white color on the top cowl, he is typically boked 9-12 months out but may be able to squeeze a side job in Quote

I did get a quote from them and shopping around a bit in my more local area. Quote
Hank Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Check with Joey Cole in Dalton, GA, KDNN. Hes a bit closer to you than Atlanta. Quote
