mooneyflyer Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 This is for a friend: Our G 1000 panels are starting to get sticky buttons on them - meaning we have to press them several times to get them to work. Looking for replacement or preferably an upgrade. Please provide your thoughts or advice. Quote
exM20K Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 The G1000 is generally not field repairable. O/H Exchange was like 2.5 AMU's last time I did one, and that was for a malfunctioning knob or pot switch. At least they warrantee the replacement unit. -dan Quote

Looking for replacement or preferably an upgrade. Please provide your thoughts or advice. I have never had one break, but the knobs do break, especially in hot weather environments. I keep a complete set in a climate controlled environment so that someday if I need to change one, I have it. (https://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/g1000-knob-replacement-kit) Quote
dkkim73 Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 I have a G1000 in a 2009 plane, and the buttons sometimes stick in subtle ways. E.g. the flip-flop will bounce you back to the original frequency. 2.5amu seems like a lot to green it up as long as everything works. I'd sometimes wondered about using contact cleaner, but it's a pretty important panel, and you break it you fix it... But I have wondered if the actual construction allows a more limited clean-up. @LANCECASPER I take it those knobs are serviceable from the front? (e.g. cracked or lost, just press-fit a new one on?) Overall I guess I should be happy that things still work pretty well (and screens pretty readable) after 15 yrs. Quote

Would you ever do it just for sticky/futzy switches and knobs? Quote

I had a GNS 530W where the flip/flop used to stick and that cleared it up. 1 Quote

buddy Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 I just replaced my MFD - GDU1040 with an overhauled unit from Garmin although for a different reason and the cost was $3,014 plus $37.50 for freight. Quote
KSMooniac Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Bevan Aviation in Wichita routinely repairs GNS boxes for all sorts of issues, and especially failing/sticky buttons. They've done mine on one of my units so far. I believe the G1000 uses the same buttons so you might inquire if they'll work on that system as well. Quote
Danb Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Things keep getting out of control, I replaced the MFD in my Bravo about 5-6 years ago and the cost was under $1500, my avionics man told me the cost was going up to $2000 in a week or so back then. It appears they raise the cost $500;every year or so. Also the replacement was a new unit. Quote

rgpilot Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 I have had buttons not working properly on Garmin 530w and sprayed Deoxit on them and worked buttons a few times, problem solved. Quote

I also sent my gns 530w up there and they fixed my volume knob and refreshed all the other buttons and knobs at the sane time. Much cheaper than sending it to garmin. 1 2 Quote
