BlueSky247 Posted July 27 Report Posted July 27 They are having a naming contest for it at Osh this year. They said the performance characteristics are very similar to the current model, but since this one is composite, it will be field-repairable. Also that it removes the operating limitation the current one has. They state this stc is the next in their pipeline and it is expected to happen in Q4 this year. 1 Quote
Pinecone Posted July 27 Report Posted July 27 Hmm, I wonder if this means the composite 3 blade for M20Ks will be coming soon. Quote
Will.iam Posted July 27 Report Posted July 27 I wish someone woukd make a 2 blade composite for the M20K’s one of the main reason i haven’t gone to a three blade like MT-prop is that getting the cowl on and off for oil changes by myself is hard enough with 2 blades, no sure how 3 blade owners accomplish this solo. Guess i need to go see one of my neighbors do theirs at their next oil change. 1 Quote
BlueSky247 Posted July 27 Author Report Posted July 27 @Will.iam Might be a little overkill but sounds like a good excuse for a gantry crane. 1 Quote
EricJ Posted July 27 Report Posted July 27 I helped a friend put one of the Hartzell composites on an experimental, and it's a nice prop! This was the same prop that goes on a Piper Malibu. It's been working great for him. They're not wood, so not subject to some of the same issues as the wooden composites. 1 Quote
DonMuncy Posted July 27 Report Posted July 27 I have a 3 blade MT on my K model, and taking the cowl on and off by myself is only a little bit more of a PIA than the 2 blade. Quote

I see the new Hartzell STC for a 2 blade Composite on the DA 40(XL) w/ IO-360 is about $27,000 from Ottesen Prop. With shipping, installation, tax I bet it is close to $30K. Ouch.... That is a lot to spend to save a few pounds and to "save" on field repair (assuming that you tear it up). BlueSky247 Posted July 28 Author Report Posted July 28 I didn’t ask. I prefer blissful ignorance. 1 Quote
