Jeev Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Hey All - I am missing some fasteners on my cowling and also want to replace some nasty rusty ones. I see that spruce has a cowling kit for the J but I only need 5 or so not the whole kit. Does anyone know what size/part # I need? I pulled one and cant find any markings on it. Thanks! Quote
The-sky-captain Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Jeev, I just replaced all of mine. There are many sizes so it depends on which ones need to be replaced. Give these guys a call and give them the serial number of your plane http://www.milspecproducts.com/ Quote

Jeev Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 The link Skycaptain listed above had everything I needed. For anyone else who is looking here are the part #'s Upper Cowling Top along the windshield - 40S5-5 Aft - 27S3-7 Front - 27S3-4 Lower cowling aft - 40S5-5 Quote
carusoam Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Don't forget the Camloc pliers. They cost about $20. It works so easily you will want to take all of them out, just to put them back in..... Without the pliers, scratched paint and pinched fingers..... -a- Quote
The-sky-captain Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Jeev- Ditto on what Jim said. I replaced all of my grommers, retainers and studs and even my battery panel hardware. Make sure Milspec sends a few extra on everything. In my case they ran one short on about everything and it got to be very frustrating. The pliers and retainer tools cost about $50 or so. They will let you rent them for about half the cost of buying the tools but I went ahead and bought mine. If you want to save the $50 fly down to NW Ark and I'll let you use mine... free of charge:) Quote
Jeev Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Thanks guys!!! I just ordered the studs for now since I have a few missing from the damn shop when they did my last oil change but as I look closer there are a few retainers that could use replacing. Captain - I may take you up on that... Great excuse to "save" $50 and put some time on YG Quote
