Hi All,

I'm hoping to get a head start planning for my panel layout. Sure, I could pull the current panel and trace it out, but I need to get in my fair share of planning (overthinking).

If anyone has a CAD drawing of the panel for a 1970C they could share, I would appreciate it. I'm probably going with a 2 piece, but I'm not sure.

TIA

We really need a file location on this site for cad drawings.  I’m working on one for my panel now (‘92 M20j).  Lee

The problem from my perspective is that, as far as I know, any uploaded files eat into the allocated space for the person who uploaded.  There is no storage for files that are not "owned" by someone.  The files we do have are not organized or curated.  I prefer the software on this forum, but BeechTalk has the kind of central storage I'm speaking of, and they have massive numbers of files and documents available.  That's how you develop what I call "Institutional Memory".  But I find the software used on BeechTalk somewhat clunky.

Me, too. I was able to get a full-scale tracing of a friend's panel, but it's awkward to work with and I'm not good measuring radii of the many, many curves [especially the outside edges, which have no straight lines].

Good luck!

Hank,

I tried subbing the CAD work for my CNC machine and could never get the accuracy required.  So I buckled down, bough a decent CAD package (draft sight) and taught myself how to draw again.  (I used to be really good with a pencil).  I have an extensive library of panels and instruments, know which instrument holes to make slightly bigger, slightly smaller etc.  And I know how to generate the curved outlines of the panel too.  And I'm pretty good and laying out the instruments so that the panel looks right, does not obstruct behind, etc.

At the end of this, I am not prepared to share the CAD file, but quite happy to provide a design and CNC machining service for new panels.
