Here you go Don.  Scott

So, long story short I F$#%ed up my pilot yoke using the bolt shown here.  The co-pilot is long enough...barely.  The pilot had minimal thread showing.  I put a small crescent wrench on top bolt and tightened the bottom with a socket.  Big mistake as I couldn't see that the top bolt was tightening into the yoke aluminum.  Sigh.  The result with the less thin bolt vs. original pin with screw on bottom was some play in the pilot yoke.  I DO NOT LIKE THAT FEELING AT ALL.  I bought a replacement yoke on The Ebay out of Florida that has a push to talk installed.  i will strip have painted and use OEM pin on second effort.  Pretty disappointing when you go to a reputable Mooney shop and get a bolt that is NOT CORRECT for the application.  :( Still won't be "into this project for much.  WAY under .5 AMU even with replacement yoke.  Back up shaft with purchase.

@Echo, what made you go matte finish? I kind of like the look and texture of the smooth OEM finish.

I am sorry I was not following this thread closer as I could have caught that the hardware you received was not same as factory. I doubt those yoke were on there for 60 years. They come off every 500hrs as required by AD 77-17-04.  I think it’s a poorly written AD that has the potential to cause more problems than it solves.

What inspired you to replace the hardware? I have found that a hammer and drift will facilitate pin removal but it feels heavy handed.

Personal preference I guess.  I don't like the OEM finish.  I just prefer black.  Yes, I knew the hardware was different that I received.  I just figured Laser would send the "right" parts?  Stupid me.  I will be putting OLD hardware in replacement yoke.  Lesson learned.

Got second yoke with push to talk IMG_0299.jpeg.43351d8a1b27d6bbd5b855110ea3edf6.jpegIMG_0298.jpeg.c6562294f50299e534dc5f9b64a3a285.jpegback from powder coating. Looks great. Will use OEM tapperd bolt to secure this time. Lesson learned. Worth hassle and $ for redo to gain push to talk. Scott

I’m might be late with this suggestion… but if you’re subject to the 500 hr yoke shaft AD, you might see how close you are to the ‘next due’ and have it done now, since the yokes are already off.  (If they still are.)

I’m doing that with Maxwells. I’m 50 hours away from the required time. Don told me they have a legal way to check without having to fully remove the pins/yokes. Since I’m having leather yokes installed, I figured it was a good time to do both while the yokes are off…

Pilot yoke installation with OEM bolt was a non event.  OEM yoke looks O.K.  Glad to have push to talk.  Non-functional ram air removal and install of a push pull pc disconnect will be awesome.  Already looking ahead To panel redo in Jan/Feb that will yield an 830 with fuel flow and rpm/mp etc on pilot side.  Having an intercom and HUGE Aera GPS on co pilot panel is gravy for this VFR guy.
