Pinecone Posted September 1, 2023 Report Posted September 1, 2023 My plane is scheduled in for full Garmin panel (G3X, GTN-750Xi, GTN-650Xi (already have), G-5 (also have), GFC-500, PS 450B, etc) in January. So, last weekend my current Aspen/EA-100/KAP-150 started giving me A/P AHRS Failure light. If you don't know, the KAP is attitude based, so when you replace the AI with the Aspen, you need the EA-100 to translate the from the Aspen to drive the autopilot to fly the airplane. It seems they are known to be not the most reliable piece of electronics. So I call my avionics shop and he has me come by. He mentions he thinks he has a used EA-100 he took in trade when redoing a panel. Even better, he will LEND it to me to get me to the panel upgrade. WOW. So, I show up this morning, a couple hours later, done. Oh, he did not have a used one so he LOANDED ME A NEW ONE. Two hours labor and I am off and flying. THAT is customer service. And NO, I will not tell you who it is. At least not until I get MY upgrade done. Then I will post the whole upgrade and the name of the shop. 2 Quote

Sometimes I thought the damn a/p was trying to kill me. Speaking of great customer service: I explained my issue here and @Jake@BevanAviation replied that my A&P should check to make sure that the EA-100 was properly grounded. It wasn't. Since being properly grounded, I've had no problems. This did cause me to spend some time looking for a backup EA-100. Used ones are very rare. Most sold are in service it seems. 1 Quote

Pinecone Posted September 4, 2023 Author Report Posted September 4, 2023 8 - 10 weeks. Used EA-100s are probably hard to find as many people need one. Mine was just giving me an A/P AHARS failure. So no autopilot available at all. Quote
