Can’t Connect iPad to G3X

We flew up to Dayton this morning and everything worked perfect, nothing out of the ordinary. When we fired up to leave, the iPad would connect to the GTX345, but it refuses to connect to the G3X. I looked at the BT page and tried to force a connection there, but nothing worked. I also tried to control my phone but nothing there either. 
If you’ve run into this and found a fix, I’d like to hear about it.

Delete the stored BT connections on both the G3X and iPad, and start and stop Bluetooth on iPad, reconnect when G3X when it shows.

I had this happen once and just did a full shut down on the iPad and it worked again when I rebooted it. It's a good idea to do a full shut down and reboot on iPhones and iPads every so often as I've noticed strange behavior if they are not rebooted every so often.

If none of that works, I had to delete Pilot app, re-install and it worked fine.

On a related subject, I’ve been unsuccessful getting a flight plan from my iPad to G3X to GTN. If I set GPS source to internal, I can transfer from iPad to G3X, but switching back to external (GTN), it doesn’t sync up, even if the GTN flight plan is empty. There’s a YouTube video where supposedly this works, but could be the experimental version.
Is there a setting I’m missing?

I synch from the iPad to G3X and select “Activate” on the G3X and it transfers to the GTN automagically. I don’t ever change the Internal/External flag in the G3X. 
 

I am running Garmin Pilot on the iPad, if that makes a difference. 

I’d be happy to take and send you a video, but that will have to wait.

If you enter a flight plan in the GTN with the G3X flight plan source set to external, does the flight plan transfer to the G3X?

Yes, flight plan transfers to G3X and my Aera 660 from GTN 650Xi as I enter it, G3X source set to external.

I’m using Garmin Pilot on an iPad as well. I thought ConnextX wouldn’t work if G3X source is set to external?

I don't have Flightstream. If you have  Flightstream, I do not believe it will also transfer from the G3X.

When transferring a flight plan from the iPad to the G3X, it will only go to the internal flight plan if the flight plan source is internal. If the flight plan source is external, the flight plan will go to the GTN.

You don't have Flightstream just because your setup provides similar function without it?

When would someone need Flightstream?

When transferring a flight plan from the iPad to the G3X, it will only go to the internal flight plan if the flight plan source is internal. If the flight plan source is external, the flight plan will go to the GTN.

I don’t have Flightstream, so I will try it with source external and see if it works.

Flightstream was the first Connext method Garmin created for wireless connectivity. The G3X has Bluetooth Connext and allows flight plan transfers without Flightstream. The G3X cannot perform wireless Nav database updates because that requires the wider bandwidth of WiFi which the G3X does not support. In my setup, I load databases from SD cards and connect the iPad to the G3X and GTX 345 via Bluetooth.

I have an AERA 760 that shows traffic and weather, connected using BT to my FS510, but it won't transfer flight plans either direction.

No Flightstream, just BT between iPad and G3X. GPS source set to external and I never touch it.

Yes, it’s hardwired to G3X, because Aera can only handle 1 BT connection, that’s connected to the GDL52R to get traffic and weather.
I don’t think Aera can send flight plans to GTN, I tried that once I think. So GTN can broadcast plans it out, but I haven’t gotten it to receive one yet.

I don’t know much about the Aera 660, but I’ve always heard of it being hardwired to the GTN rather than the G3X.

OK, so it seems that it needs to be wired.  But I think I will call Garmin.  Strange the Pilot and FF will transfer flight plans, but not an AERA

iPads can have multiple Bluetooth devices connected, Aera can’t, so choose: flight plans or ADSB data.

there's a chance you had to many devices connected to something, ipad/g3x etc...   turn off your phone and extra ipads see what happens.

I get this sometimes when i fly, my gdl39, audio panel or headsets wont' connect to certain things because i have my 2 ipads, 2phones and watch all competing for connection

Aah, ok.   But my iPad has only one connection to the FS510.
