bruce_m20e Posted May 26, 2023 Report Posted May 26, 2023 So just got the plane and doing its first annual, there were a lot of issues with it, but i digress The one I am addressing with my mechanic now is the shocks, got all new donuts to replace the original five donut configuration. Jacked up the plane and removed the old ones, but now, the new ones, cant compress enough to put the bolt back through the shaft... I have all my weight on the wing tip and still cant get it in... ArtVandelay Posted May 26, 2023 Report Posted May 26, 2023 There’s special tools required…you do have the maintenance manual? Quote

Hank Posted May 26, 2023 Report Posted May 26, 2023 If you're changing from the old-style 5 donuts to 4, there's more parts to replace. 1 Quote
PT20J Posted May 26, 2023 Report Posted May 26, 2023 Wow. I don't think the shock disks for the 5-disk configuration have been available for over 50 years!! Check out SBM20-139A. https://www.mooney.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/SBM20-139A.pdf And, you need the tool: https://www.knr-inc.com/products-list.html?view=article&id=133:knr-tools-mooney-landing-gear&catid=87:tools Skip Quote

If you are converting from the original shock discs to the Lord, you will have to get the parts listed in the service bulletin. You will have to contact a place like Don Maxwell, or perhaps @Alan Fox has the salvage parts available. https://www.mooney.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/SBM20-139A.pdf Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 27, 2023 Report Posted May 27, 2023 I do The maintenance manual (at least the J does) has description of the special tools required. Quote
Utah20Gflyer Posted May 27, 2023 Report Posted May 27, 2023 When my mechanic replaced my main shock disks he used a ratchet strap to compress the disks enough to put the hardware back on. He removed the landing gear from the plane which might be a factor in using this method. Quote
