Niko182 Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 (edited) I'm looking at either adding a name to my Mooneys registration or just changing the name completely. If I did either of these, would I still be able to use my planes current registration until I got the new permanent one, or would my current registration expire when I apply for the name change on the registration. The main reason I'm asking is because I travel to Canada every now and then and its not possible to enter with a temp registration. My Insurance requires one of the named owners to be insured however they don't fly anymore, hence the reason I'm trying to add my name to it. In the end the goal is to avoid insuring someone that doesn't fly the airplane anymore. Any help is appreciated. Edited March 28, 2023 by Niko182 Quote
Hank Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 I bought my Mooney half at a time. Each time we filled out the forms ($10 + other valuable considerations), and I had a nice Pink Slip to fly with while waiting for the new Registration to come in the mail. First time added my name to the Registration; second time removed the other guy's name. Pink slip each time. Way before COVID, when the nice folks at FAA were actually working in their offices, from their desks and cubicles. Just don't see it having changed for the better during the last three years . . . . Pinecone Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 I bought my plane last summer. It took 6 months for the registration was changed. AFAIK the old registration is not valid upon the application and issuing the new temp. But would Canada be able to tell that? Quote
kortopates Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 You can get a FlyWire registration in as soon as about 48 hrs to allow international ops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Danb Posted March 28, 2023 Report Posted March 28, 2023 Yep, I received the fly wire in less than two days. Quote

They will want to see a proper bill of sale and application for registration properly prepared. And like any other transfer of registration, it terminates the validity of the existing registration and you use the retained copy of the application as the temporary. Properly prepared: Everything properly filled out and signed. If you are not 100% sure what you are doing get professional help. A caution: I would check with my insurance company whether the change in ownership will affect anything. and, if so, what? People talk all the time about what an LLC or corporate structure will do in terms of liability. One of the real advantages for group ownership via an entity is exactly this issue. Moving people in and out of the company doesn't not affect the ownership of the aircraft. Quote
