Any chance you’ve looked at the uAvionix AV-30’s?

They offer a whole lot with very little $$.

The install is a tenth of the time of a G5 and they are setup to talk to just about anything. AP certification is in the near future. Also the traffic page with the AV-Link soon to come.

I know a few people that recently installed them and rave about them.

If you go the Dynon route you might be able to use one AV-30 for the secondary backup that’s required and the other for a stand alone traffic display.

I’m sure there will be some opinions on this—

The Dynon STC requires the Dynon backup so no dice on the AV-30 being used as the backup.

Also promises that the AV-30 will be compatible with Autopilots may or may not materialize. The day that Garmin introduced the GI-275 must have really been a tough one for the makers of the AV-30. It's everything that the AV-30 hoped and promised to be and more and it was certified the day it was announced. They have discounted their units since then, but I'm sure sales declined rapidly.

Also the person posting doesn't have an autopilot right now, so Dynon is the best solution for the money, of course that's also a promise of a Mooney autopilot approval from Dynon, but since Dynon owns a Mooney the chances are pretty good. It's scheduled after the 182, which was after the Bonanza A36 that got approved in December.

Well that’s a bummer. D-10A is flat out ugly. I love the look of the HDX though.

Have you considered Dual G5's and only two axis GFC-500?  Saves some money and you can add the trim servo later when/if you have the budget for it - not much increase when adding later vs. during the original install.  You should ask them to provision/run the wires for the trim switch during the initial install if you are seriously considering this option.
