gregwatts Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Have you guys ever considered Cedar Key for a fly-in destination?
Dale Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Cedar Key is a nice place for a fly in. Runway is a bit shorter than most at around 2300 feet, but no tall obstructions on the approaches. Everglades City Airport, X01, is also a great place for a fly in. Similar to Cedar Key, a short runway, about 2400 feet, but no obstructions on the approach ends and a lot to see and do in the area. I flew into Everglades City this past weekend and biked around the town and went to eat at one of the numerous seafood restaurants. A lot of history at Everglades City, just like Cedar Key. Everyone would have to be use to the shorter runways, but there is a lots to see and do, if you have a bike or don't mind walking.
wrbix Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Not trying to be too "Spam-like", but my vacation home on Cedar Key is available for rentals and is within 100 yards of KCDK.. Information at www.islandoaks.net. Hope to land there sometime soon myself - PPL student at approx 20 hours, with dreams of M20F ownership.
Hector Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 I'm in. Have not been there for many years but I recall it being a nice place to spend a day and they had some nice seafood restaurants. I went to school in Gainesville (boy that was a long time ago) but remember taking some dates there too. I was broke then but man would I like to have the youth and vigor of my college days Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
fantom Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Sounds good to me. I'll need To arrive early in order to watch Jim's attempt at landing ;-)
flyboy0681 Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Now that the best flying weather of the year has arrived, count me in.
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 CDK is fun. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/32281-/
M20E-1964 Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 I'm interested in going. Flew the Mooney in there once- wasnt as big of a deal as I thought it was going to be.
Hector Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 Somebody needs to pick a day, hopefully a Saturday, early December? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Hector Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 How about December 1st? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
wrbix Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Post some pics if it gets done, please.. Hope someday soon to spend a fair amount of time at CDK....this could become an annual thing in the future w burgers on the deck (although there are lots of places to eat in CDK) at Island Oaks. Have fun, Bill
flyboy0681 Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 How about December 1st? I'm out of town on business from tomorrow until the 7th.
fantom Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 December 1 is a good possibility for me . . . Ditto...
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 December 1 is a good possibility for me . . . I'd probably be down for a quick drop-in.
fantom Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 So, guys...are we talking Cedar Key, where there is nothing, like a meeting room, fuel, good runway, transportation, food joints, or much of anything else; or Everglades City with reasonable fuel, a weekend FBO, lifts to several seafood restaurants, think fresh stone crabs, a recently resurfaced runway, and like that? Not that I have a favorite between the two . Or somewhere else convenient and centrally located for our first MooneySpace get together. Not much time to decide. We don't want this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene_paradox
Hector Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 I'm good with CDK or X60. I have not been to Everglades in over 10 years. Definitely would not mind going back but don't know I have enough time for that this Saturday. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Looking at my new spiffy Flight Guide "seamless sectional" map for something interesting and centrally located in Florida.... that even Jim can fly to, How about: Lake Wales X07, or, Bartow KBOW, or Winter Haven KGIF? Jim: X07 is 250 NM from me + getting through the "friendly" Orlando skies.....not exactly equal distant. Are you still at 1JO?
fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Leesburg KLEE or Ocala KOCF is just over 200 NM for both Jim and me. What say the rest of you???
Hector Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Leesburg, Ocala, and Bartow are all fine with me Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Then Ocala it is.....say 10:30 on Saturday? One of my 'strong points' is making things more complicated than they have to be. So, who else is coming????
fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 So, looks like perezer, flyboy, and Jim, for sure. Maybe Gmcd, gregwatts (who started this whole thing) , and could Dale make it (which would be a real treat)? Anyone else interested??????
fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Parker is in, but flyboy is out of town.....
flyboy0681 Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Of all the times for me to be out of town. I would have loved to attend.
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Ocala would probably work. I need some plans to firm up for Saturday first, but I give myself a 90% chance of being there at this point.
