Greetings,

question when installing the GI 275 EIS version does it have to be done by an authorized dealer? I know the ASI yes but not the MFD.

 Many thanks.

you can buy it from avionics shops ... so in theory yes ... however not sure if / how you get the install manual unless it comes with the purchase

Install manual comes with purchase, I did the MFD in April and I plan to replace my JPI 700 with an EIS this winter. That being said the install is effectively the GEA 24 instructions from the G3X and the unit needs power, RS232 and HSDB if you have a modern Navigator or other relevant HSDB devices like the GSB 15.

The GI 275 EIS unit does not have to be installed by a Garmin dealer, and the installation manual is available outside the Garmin network.  Let me know if you have any further questions, happy to help!

Thank you everyone! After doing some more reading, and going through the install docs I decided to do the Insight G2 for now, since she already has the GEM 602 that just died, to keep the cost low.

And decide what to do next after flying some more and attending the MAPA PPP this January, meet some owners see some panels etc.

I really want the GI 275 but that opens a can of worms panel work and maybe I should just upgrade to G3X what about autopilot, uh there is the Dynon SkyView...

Question becomes will this be a forever plane and get a second one down the line with 6 seats.

Thanks again this is a great community and I hope to start giving back once I gain some more experience.

M20Es make great retirement planes…

Great economics, and casual back seat passenger use…

Five person Mooneys are few… Long bodies with a bench seat in the back…

Six seater forever planes are more difficult because their economics aren’t so good for two people traveling…

Best regards,

If you aren't going to use the dead 602 I have a spot in my museum for it and would be glad to send a shipping label.

I installed a lot of them over the years and prided myself in placing the EGT probes to show the same temps with GAMI injectors.

It would look good next to the Argus 5000 I just received.

If by a holiday  miracle I get the G2 installed before Thanksgiving I will give it to my father in law who lives in Chicago and he can possibly drop it off (He got a long ez, I am the owner of his M20E now) or at least save you some on shipping.

Otherwise I will let you know when it's out.
