Ulysse Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 in an installation with g3x, g5 and remote ads-b gtx 345R, would it possible to communicate with the transponder with a failed g3x screen? Quote
ArtVandelay Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 Does the G3X Bluetooth relay the ADSB information?Does the 345 have Bluetooth? Quote
PT20J Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 Per the Garmin GTX 345 STC installation manual, the GTX Bluetooth is supposed to be turned off if the GTX interfaces to a Flight Stream device such as a G3X. Skip Quote
PJClark Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 Or it means what it says: an actual FS210 or FS510. Quote
PT20J Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 Because Garmin’s manuals are so confusing and I was interested in accessing the GTX AHRS as a backup, I contacted Garmin and was told that the GTX Bluetooth is supposed to be disabled in a certificated G3X installation. I confirmed this with my Garmin dealer. Skip Quote
PT20J Posted August 30, 2021 Report Posted August 30, 2021 I discussed this again with my Garmin dealer/avionics guru and he decided that since the GTX installation manual specifically references Flight Stream and the G3X manual doesn't actually mention Flight Stream that it would be acceptable to leave the GTX Bluetooth turned on. From what Garmin support told me, it seems clear that Garmin intended it to be turned off, but I can't see leaving it on hurting anything. It's just another example of Garmin's unclear documentation that leaves a lot to the imagination, but if it leaves an option open, why not take advantage of it,. Skip Quote

SkipThe certified division and the experimental division are run like separate companies, that becomes evident when you look at what they support. Quote

Yes, the problem is when an experimental product becomes a certified product like the G3X, G5 and GFC 500. It has become really clear that the customer facing support at Garmin doesn't really understand these products very well -- they often cannot answer very basic questions. Quote
PJClark Posted August 30, 2021 Report Posted August 30, 2021 Which provokes me to ask a slightly different question (or maybe the same as the OP, IDK for sure) since you guys might be avionics installers? I THINK, but will not swear on even 1 bible, that on my flights to bring my airplane home from the Avionics work in Nov 2019 that I could set the sqawk and Ident on both my G3X and at the top of my GTN 750. I THINK. However I noticed a few months ago that the controls are now NOT on the 750..and if they were there before I sure can't figure out what I did to get rid of them or how to get them back. IF they were ever there... which might be the same as the OP--can you "communicate with the transponder" through the 750 or the G3x so if the G3x fails you can still do it from the 750. Right now I can't...but I think I ought to be able to. A corollary observation with about the same level of "I think this happened": I flew with a friend about 6 months ago and when we got powered up he immediatly wanted to pair his iPad running ForeFlight to my avionics. I already had two devices paired to the G3X so I'm about 90% sure we successfully paired it to the 345R and he was up and running. If true I reckon my installer saw the same hole as the guys you talked to. Again IF I remember this right But any tips on the first question? Quote
Ulysse Posted August 30, 2021 Author Report Posted August 30, 2021 I was thinking tha since the g5 is the compulsory back up for the g3x, then we should be able to set the sqwak code from the g5 in case the g3x fails, but this is unfortunately not the case. Quote
