OZMOONEYMAN Posted March 21, 2021 Report Posted March 21, 2021 GTX335R + GDL50R = the same as GTX34R Combability with either above solution for G3X touch ? Two boxes retails for $3940 vs $ 5295 for one box. Both = same solution ? ↓* ______________________________________________ If doing a single 10" G3X install with EIS and remote mount transponder with ADS-B out AND in. MIm20c Posted March 21, 2021 Report Posted March 21, 2021 The gtx345r is able to display on the g3x, txi, gns, and gtn units. The 50r can only display on the g3x. Not sure if you need the gad 27. I’m pretty sure the gmu11 comes with the g3x. You will need the 275 w/AP or a txi screen with a GAD 43 to remove the 256 AI. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 21, 2021 Report Posted March 21, 2021 Big G has done a great job of going in two directions... One direction is the more cost effective experimental based equipment... The other direction, is the full on, top end, capable of IFR all the time part 91 flying... Then there are the pieces that start in one area and are usable in the other area... If looking at the G5 vs the GI-275... two different divisions building a device for the same application... It helps if you can read and memorize all of the specs for each device... Each one will have limitations to what it needs, how many connections it can support, and whether it can support an old AP... Lets see if @KLudwick can add anything to the conversation... Copy, yes was thinking G5 'looks better' (not that looks over functionality really should be considered ha) and is lower cost. I figured G5 has enough functionality as a back up. But it might be penny shy pound foolish in that if 256 AI dies I would have to either repair it or jump to straight to GFC-500 A/P I guess (Or as you say have a GI-275 drive legacy king A/P). 256 AI repair or vacuum pump repair probably reasonable bang for buck still to drive existing A/P. carusoam Posted March 22, 2021 Report Posted March 22, 2021 The G5 will require an additional box to complete the communication to the AP... where the GI275 may have that skill already... PP thoughts only, -a- 1 Quote
OZMOONEYMAN Posted March 22, 2021 Author Report Posted March 22, 2021 Further question. I'm thinking the answer is 'not possible'. Without an encoding altimeter and KAS 297B unit, I assume it's not possible to have altitude capture / alt preselect for a king autopilot from bugged altitudes set on G3X screen? I assume the G3X would give alerting (deviation and approaching ) only but no way to get capturing unless went the GFC-500... ( It's not completely ideal to have A/P driven off equipment that's not primary I guess. Then again a case can be made for you the pilot be the comparator in a dual sourced loop... if autopilot sourcing - vac / AI or static / altimeter fails you pick it up with the monitoring of separate independent system! ). carusoam Posted March 22, 2021 Report Posted March 22, 2021 It’s not ideal to use an old BK AP with anything driven by Big G... Big G prefers to avoid supporting competitor products when able... Often, on the plus side... the BK AP gets a lot of info directly from its own connection to the static system... The KAS is probably connected there as well... setting altitude and rate is done directly on the kas... PP thoughts only, not an avionics guru... Best regards, -a- Quote
