ScubaMan Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Hello.... I have just about 25 hours in my new Ovation 3 and have noticed the ALT AIR annunciator light always comes on when running at full power such as take off. When manifold pressure is reduced to about 25 inches the light goes out. I have tried opening and closing the Alt Air door and does what I would exect it to do. The light comes on when the door is open and light goes out when the door is closed if manifold pressure is say below 25 inches. Is this normal? Thanks Mike Johnson 2007 Ovation 3/N871TX Quote
carusoam Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Mike, On the O1, you will feel the distinct click of a magnet on the Alt air door. Do you have the magnetic closure on the O3? I was wondering why MAC used a magnet in the design, now I think we have some insight... Best regards, -a- Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Not an Ov driver, but the door in the Bravo opens automatically when the vacuum over the air filter is too much (eg iced up) Suggest you try cleaning/replacing the air filter Ben Quote

thinwing Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 I also was thinking airfilter clogged or main induction system partially clogged (hopefully not a rag!!!!)The other possibilty is that the alt door is not really opening at all ,but that the microswitch is not adjusted completely and the increased vibration or airload at full throttle is activating airdoor switch...either way..I would check this out pronto...sinc kp couch Quote
roundout Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 I've had this happen before, but it's not normal. The O3 and 310 Acclaim have a lot of engine vibration that the O2 and Acclaim don't have. As stated before, I believe that the engine vibe have something to do with it - either the vibe making the switch indicate a false door position or the vibe shaking the magnetic keeper loose and the door actually opens. DOn't know which. Hard to track down since it takes a full power run to introduce the problem. Quote
thinwing Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 either way, still pretty easy to check induction system to rule out no blockage....kpc Quote
