ArtVandelay Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 There is some rubber like trim to cover the sharp sheet metal on the stabilizer, #20: It’s called Gray rubber extrusion Anybody know what this is and where to get it, mine is somewhat deteriorated. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 16, 2020 Author Report Posted March 16, 2020 Just now, Yetti said: What number in the picture is it? I edited original post...thx Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 Our local auto paint shop (Space Age Paint) has an interior trim department. They have all that stuff. Quote
Yetti Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 it kind of seems similar to the edging that goes around the edges of the plastic trim panels. The interesting thing is that it seems like you would have to unrivet the whole vert and horz assembly to replace it. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 16, 2020 Author Report Posted March 16, 2020 Yeah, my AP mention that too, I guess it depends how flexible the stuff is and if you can slide it on, he was going to talk to my paint guy. Quote
jetdriven Posted March 16, 2020 Report Posted March 16, 2020 Laser sells this as part of their kit with the tail root fairing modification. Maybe they can just sell you the stuff separately. I believe it’s called panel edge trim. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 17, 2020 Report Posted March 17, 2020 If selecting an extruded U shape off the shelf... be looking for something that was designed (chemically stabilized for UV protection) for exterior use... My 65C had some form of rubber that was completely eroded and eaten away before it got painted over.... It looked like it was locked in place by riveted parts... but check twice on that detail... that would not be the usual standard of Mooney... PP thoughts only... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
lithium366 Posted August 15, 2021 Report Posted August 15, 2021 I heard it is hard to replace it. Did anyone tried and have tips that will make the work easier? Quote
carusoam Posted August 15, 2021 Report Posted August 15, 2021 See if art is cruising though… @ArtVandelay -a- Quote
ArtVandelay Posted August 15, 2021 Author Report Posted August 15, 2021 I heard it is hard to replace it. Did anyone tried and have tips that will make the work easier?Yes, take out your wallet and give an AP your credit card, come back the next day and it will be done. ;-)I ended up letting my paint guy handle it. The front part is easy, the part that’s flush with the vertical stabilizer looked impossible, they said the factory probably install it before assembly. In the end they sealed it with tank sealant (PRC) I think. 1 Quote
