I am resurrecting this thread. Got a call today from a friend who owns a J model. He was in the process of getting his tanks resealed and discovered they were resealed by Midwest M20 some time ago. He also discovered that Midwest M20 used a product that cannot be removed. He is in a bit of a quandary seeing as how the tank is leaking but the old sealant cannot be removed.

Wondering if anyone here has any experience with this issue?

There was a thread on here where some shop used a non removable tank sealant. Hard as a brick. I don’t think the owner found a solution but you may want to try a site search on google.

tank sealant removal site: mooneyspace.com

The solution might be bladders.

Lots of confusion here. Suggesting mechanical stripping. Or painting /feather the new polysulfied sealant over-the urethane .  Or put in bladders

Apparently "Midwest M20" resealed the tanks on approximately 200 Mooneys using this material. It might be worth while to check this on a pre-buy because if you ever have a problem with the tanks leaking or fuel sending units or anything else fuel tank related, its going to be a problem to deal with their proprietary sealant. The STC owner is apparently deceased.
