NicoN Posted August 19, 2019 Report Posted August 19, 2019 Our airspeed indicator looks terrible . the face (?) colours look very pale. So I asked a local manufacturer for repair/repainting the face. But they need the type of indicator to tell me if they can do the job. Is this a common type? Quote
carusoam Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 Instrument shops re-paint the faces of instruments using screen printing techniques... The more complex the instrument, the more complex the screen printing... ASI with a true speed mechanical calculator is a bit more challenging... Send them a picture of the instrument, if you can’t get the part number detail... Marauder had his repainted a few years ago... he gave all the details that went with the project... it looked brand new and modern when it was done... Sounds like you may need a better instrument shop... Best regards, -a- Quote
milotron Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 Is the face of the instrument faded or is it just fog on the inside of the glass? Several of mine have this issue and I would love to find a way to resolve it without paying to have the instruments re-certified. Quote
NicoN Posted August 20, 2019 Author Report Posted August 20, 2019 the colours faded. The glass looks fine. I found a company, but they say it depends on how the scale is fixed (?) if they can do the job Quote
flyboy0681 Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 The glass in our '83 J was very fogged over and we had it cleaned while the plane was down for repairs. The difference is like day and night. Quote
Oldguy Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 @NicoN have you checked with Aeroskill Maestenbrek in Holland? I believe they are a MSC and can probably both answer your question and have a place to do Mooney gauges. Quote
0TreeLemur Posted August 20, 2019 Report Posted August 20, 2019 Rudy Aircraft Instruments in Arkansas took a used indicator that I purchased, overhauled, calibrated, and repainted the face to POH arc/limits. I love it. Quote

The difference is like day and night. had the same thing done to our J years ago by my previous avionics shop. Very happy with the result other than when my gear wouldn't retract upon departure (had to d make some adjustments on the back of the ASI as I recall--may want to double check this if you pull yours out and open it up).
